Museum time GREENSBORO —The LGBT-allies Pride Greensboro Meetup will be taking a trip to the Civil Rights Museum, 301 N. Elm St, on March 27 at 11 a.m. The group's moderator Heather Spealman said, "As we all know, we are not the first group of people to face challenges and have to stand up and fight for our right to be equal. A tour through the International Civil Rights Center & Museum is an engaging and educa tional journey through the challenges African- Americans faced in the struggle for equal rights. With the historic F.W. Woolworth lunch counter as its centerpiece, the Museum's exhibits tell the story of the Greensboro Four, as well as other key human and civil rights struggles and achievements." WSSU staffer elected to ENC board WINSTON-SALEM — Winston Salem State University Director of Conferences and Institutes Chevara Orrin was recently elected to join the Board of Directors of Equality NC. As co-advisor to the school's Gay-Straight Student Alliance, she serves as an active community advocate for LGBT rights. Regional^ Unity Conference slated CHAPEL HILL—The Southeast Regional Unity Conference will be held April 9-11 at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill campus. The conference is open to LGBT and queer identified people and their allies. It was created to provide a safe place for dialogues across a wide range of topics, as well as exploring effective strategies for grassroots organizing. Theme for this year's event is "Intersecting Identities: Politics, Power, Performance." Speakers and performers include Northwest University Performance Studies graduate student Kareem Khubchandani and Pastor Roger Hayes from Winston-Salem's Church of the Holy Spirit. Registration begins at 3 p.m. on April 9. Dn April 10, a variety of breakout/workshops will be held. Dn April 11, an interfaith service will take place followed by a breakoul/workshop, then a closing session. Included in the prior day's activities are a dance party, film screen ing of "Sins Invalid" and an after party. Conference registration fees are on a pay- what-you-can basis, from $20-$60, with no one turned away due to lack of funds. UNC-CH student fees cover the cost of registration for UNC-CH students, although donations are welcome. Registration is securely hosted by Formspring and payments are made through Paypal. Unity is open to people of all ages (stu dents or non-students), sexual orientations, gender identities, faiths, races, ethnicities and physical abilities. Scholarship applications are available. Campus Scene UNC system revises code CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina has given its final DK to a revised student code of conduct that prohibits harass ment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. This ruling covers all of its 16 constituent universities. According to Equality NC, "Many of the campuses had already adopted individual, LGBT-inclusive policies, but this new policy is comprehensive to the university system. This policy also includes high school programs at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts."
