BADIN, NORTH CAROLINA FREE PUBLIC SCHOOL FOR COLORED CHILDREN, BADIN N C We can conscientiously say that the educational advan tages for the race are no better anywhere.in the South than they are here. Christians are building churches and are be ing met on halfway ground by the Company. Two churches are under rapid headway for construction in next month— a Baptist and one for the A. M. E. Zion people. Both of these are to be splendid buildings. Negro Business Leagues and Companies are being organized for bettering the race conditions, homes are being brought on the ten-year or easy- payment plan of the Company, and members of the race here who have foresight are becoming satisfied to settle here, and there is no better place on earth for us to live. We, therefore, unite our voices in asking the intelli gent class of the race to come join our band. The Company, along with us, is drawing a line of demarka- tion between the worthy and the worthless man or woman who comes or thinks of coming to Badin, and when you apply for attaching yourself to our band the only question asked is: "ARE YOU A RELIABLE WORKMAN, AND ARE YOU A gentleman?" Only this class is desired, and others are either reformed or sent ®way. The moral, educational, *nd religious life of Badin is trowing by leaps and bounds, due to the fact that it is encouraged by the management of the Com pany. Municipal officers are wide awake and on the job; therefore, honest people need not hesitate to come. I think I can truthfully say that the Christmas just gone is the first thru which I have passed in my life during which I did not see signs of liquor drink ing among the unfortunate of my race who have allowed this curse to come upon them; but this year I saw no sign of drinking or drunk ards. All worthy negroes are urged to come here and see the prospects for our development in the truest sense. Come, help us to solve the prob lems which are to determine our destiny as a race—that while so many of us here are getting money in our pockets, wisdom in our heads, and skill in our hands, we may still retain a grip on the honesty and religion of our fathers and the world’s civilization, that we, along with the Tallassee Power Company, will be honored for having set in motion educational, moral, and religious forces which have blessed, are blessing, and will ever bless mankind. With best wishes for a race who will take advantages of the opportunities. I remain Very truly yours E. G. Harris Principal Badin Colored Schools J ONE OP THE HOMES FOR NEGRO FAMILIES AT BADIN
