THE MATRIMONIAL BACILLUS IS ACTIVE—EVEN ON THE LAKE Jones-Sibley A wedding that will prove of interest, and will come as a surprise to the many friends of the groom here, occurred in Rockingham, S. C., on Christmas Eve, at eight o’clock, when Miss Juanita Sibley of that city became the bride of Mr. Robert Jones, of Badin. The wed ding was a quiet affair, only a few of the friends and relatives of the couple being present. Mr. Jones has been in Badin since returning from France, and is now ope rating at the Falls power house. He is a young man of promising future, and has many friends in Badin. Mr. and Mrs. Jones will make their home on Falls Hill, in Badin. of Lenoir College Faculty, sang “Be cause.” Miss Pauline Cauble played the wedding march. Rev. 0. W. Aderholdt, a brother-in-law of the bride, and pas tor of the Lutheran Church at Crouse, N. C., performed the ceremony, assisted by Rev. T. G. Tate, of Badin, N. C. After the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Gil bert left for Asheville and points in South Carolina. Miss Powlas held a responsible posi tion with the Tallassee Power Company, and has a wide circle of friends and admirers. Mr. Gilbert is assistant cash ier of the Bank of Badin, and is a young man of sterling qualities and bright fu ture. Their friends wish for them a happy life together. Gilbert-Powlas The home of Mrs. Maggie V. Powlas, in Hickory, N. C., was the scene of a pretty wedding, when on December 12 Miss Mabel Powlas became the wife of Mr. Charles B. Gilbert, both of Badin. Only the family and closest personal friends were invited. The reception hall was beautifully decorated with holly, in keeping with the holiday season. Be fore the ceremony. Miss Esther Schultze, The dance proved to be one of tl most enjoyable of the season, lastii until 1.00 a. m. The Badin color( orchestra furnished the music for tl occasion. New Year’s Dance On New Year’s Eve, there was a very pleasant dance in the Theater Building. In addition to a large crowd of Badin- ites, quite a number of visitors were present. Just before midnight, horns, whistles, and other noise-making machines made their appearance, and Nineteen Hundred and Twenty was given a rousing wel come. Personal Items Mr. John D. Shaver, formerly Badin, now working with the Bethlehe Steel Company, Spear’s Point, M( spent the Christmas holidays with h parents, at 123 Falls Road. Mr. Shav expects to return to Badin in the sprin bringing his wife with him, and w build a home on the lot which he ow: at 138 Falls Road. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Giersch left the thirtieth ultimo for Atlanta, Ga., ai after a few days there with friends ai relatives they will go on to Maryvil Tenn., Mr. Giersch having been trar ferred to Alcoa, the Company’s plant Tennessee. Their many friends will mi them, and wish them the best of lu in their new place. Dr. and Mrs. W. T. Shaver, of Sali bury, are guests at the home of M A. G. Moore, on Nantahala Street. E Shaver will be the successor of E Rainey, who leaves Badin in March assume charge of a large hospital Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Coffman ha returned from a visit to Knoxville, Ten and East St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Coffmi spent several very pleasant days Knoxville with her friend, Mrs. J. Dickson. Mrs. R. A. DuBose, and her sons, i Pierre and John, of the University the South, Sewanee, Tenn., have be visiting Mr. and Mrs. McNeely DuBoS on Tallassee Avenue. Mr. Chris Chokos has sold his inter« in the New York Cafe, and will open restaurant in Sumter, S. C. Chris ma many friends here, who will regret ^ leaving. Mrs. 0. T.
