Page Fourteen BADIN bulletin VIEW OF THE COLORED ^ LODGE NOTES ^ Knights of Pythias The following, which has just been re ceived, is of interest to all members of our local lodge: Plans for extension of the Order and assumption of greater obligations for its advancement, will, according to an nouncement sent out by the officers, be the central thought at the next conven tion of the Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias. This legislative body of the Order will be convened in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 10, 1920, the date hav ing recently been changed from August 3 by official notice from the Supreme Chancellor. Nearly one million members of the Order in the U. S. and Canada are interested in what will be done at this convention. Among the many pro posed changes in the present laws are those which will, if enacted, provide for admission to membership at eighteen years of age instead of twenty-one; life membership; changes in funeral benefit laws; and a national tuberculosis sana torium for members of the Order. While representation of each Domain is based upon Pythian population, under the statute each Grand Domain must have two supreme representatives. Some have as many as five. The Order has made phenomenal growth during the last year. The gain in membership for 1919 is reported to be over forty thousand. There has been much activity in the Uniform Rank, and it is expected that over thirty thousand men in uniform will attend the national encampment, held in Cleveland, Ohio, in July. The Insurance Department report shows an increase of protection amount ing to a gain of over five million dollars last year, making a total of over $103,- 000,000 of protection provided by this branch of the Order. During the first four months of this year, the member ship was increased over three thousand. The Knights of Khorassan, known as the “Playground of Pythianism,” has more than doubled its membership in the last two years. It is with these encour aging reports of advancement that the Supreme Lodge will assemble to make provision for a broader service to the membership, and plan a program of activities to meet the present conditions. Forty-five grand domains will have representation at the convention, and it is probable that the session will last ten days. More than two hundred companies of Uniform Rank, Knights of Pythias, have been formed into clubs to provide funds with which to defray expenses of the Company to the Cleveland Encampment- Prizes amounting to several thousand dollars will be awarded for competitive drills. The Supreme Temple, Pythian Sis ters, with over two hundred thousand membership, will hold their Supreme Convention in Minneapolis, Minn., con current with the date of the Supreme Lodge. El Wakodis Temple, Knights of Khorassan, is the largest organization of its kind in America. The membership is over twelve hundred, and the features of the temple are a band of nearly one hundred pieces, and a drill team of near ly two hundred. Red Star Lodge, San Diego, is the largest Pythian lodge in the world. has a membership of over thirteen hun dred. Five other lodges are in the race for the honors. They are Garfield, Mil' waukee, Wis.; Crusade, South Bend> Ind.; Hobah, Bethlehem, Pa.; Wayne» Detroit, Mich.; and Oklahoma City, Okl^^' Thos. C.
