Wilson a little thought to what he is doing, so that his fingers will come between the strips instead of directly upon them. The strips also make it easier to pick the object up again. The ways in which ac cidents to the hands are caused through the use of hand tools are as varied as the number of different kinds of tools. A man starting to saw a board usually guides the saw for a few short strokes, after which he invariably places his hand close beside the saw, and unless the saw yer possesses reasonable skill the saw is likely to jump out of the cut and inflict 'a severe injury on the hand that is near it. There are thousands of handle- less files in use, and their pointed tangs are a constant menace. Files are made with pointed tongues so that it will be easy to fit them with handles, and as the life of the file is much shorter than that of the handles the same handle will serve for several files in succession. It is hardly necessary to go through the list of hand tools, and point out how their use is accompanied by hand injuries. Many familiar illustrations will do doubt occur to the reader at once. For the most part, there appears to be no rem edy of a mechanical nature. The acci dents usually result from carelessness in the use of tools, so the remedy lies in the exercise of greater personal care on the part of the workman. While many of the rooms have shown a steady de' crease in accidents since January 1, this one particular room has had the lea^^ all the way through. The monthly acci dent report for January shows a total of seventeen accidents, with three days’ lost time. For February, total of six teen accidents, with twelve days’ los^ time. For March, total of sixteen acci dents, with no days’ lost time. For April, total of ten accidents, with days lost time. This record shows th3^ the Head Potmen are on the job their co-operation with the Safety D®' partment in keeping the accident reports down to a minimum. Let all the other rooms endeavor to reach the standard that No. 32 has, and they will lead other Departments in their accidents per one hundred men working. But there’s nothing shines so brightly in this world of human need, As the beauty and the glory of a kir^^ and thoughtful deed. There are lovely things to look at-"' there’s the blue sky and the sun. And the hill tops in the distance, the works that men have done, But the best of God’s creations, in this world of joy and smart.
