From early in the morning until the wee hours of the next morning, Badin folks and hundreds of out-of-town people watched and joined in the many events that took place to make the day the splendid success that it was. The day Was entirely devoid of anything that J^ight mar the occasion in the slightest degree, and passed into the annals of great achievements that have taken'.place in our town. An invitation was broadcast over the surrounding territory for the people to come to Badin and help celebrate the iay in a fitting manner and enjoy the fun. The invitation met with hearty I'esponse, and it was stated by some that during the day there were from five hundred to a thousand out-of-town peo ple present here. Automobiles poured in and out of the town all day bringing in folks to witness the events of the day, and especially the dance of the even ing. The weather was superb; nothing bet- ter could have been asked of the weather ^an. There was not a single cloud to ^"^ar; the sky, and old Sol shone forth , with, his cheerful rays, while a refresh ing breeze brought comfort and genuine pleasure all throughout the day. The day started with the assembling of the parade at the school grounds at nine o’clock, Mr. E. F. Smith acting as marshal. The line of march included the band, which was in full uniform, boy scouts, ex-service men, Patriotic Sons of America, school girls with flags led by Miss Boyte and Mrs. B. M. Williams and about forty decorated automobiles. The parade left the school.grounds about nine-thirty, going down Spruce Avenue to Pine, down Pine to Falls Road, Falls Road to Albemarle Road, then to the main office, where the flag raising exer cises took place. The flag raising was one of the most impressive occasions of the day. The local American Legion had charge of raising the flag, while the band played the Star Spangled Banner. The ex-service men stood at atten tion, and the crowd watched with uncov ered heads. Upon reaching the upper most top of the pole, the bi’eeze caught the flag and unfurled its beautiful stars and stripes to the gaze of the thousands of spectators, who made the hillsides echo and ring with applause. The throng then turned its attention to the lake side, where the water sports took place. These stai’ted off with a sixty yai’d swimming race for boys un der eighteen.
