Narrows Power House Notes
Quite often some little something will
^^PPen to break the monotony. It is
^ell enough, so long as it doesn’t do
damage. So a big barn rat made
^ short circuit at the rotary station the
Corning of July 26, about 3.53, causing
^he whole Tallassee Power system to be
off for a few minutes—from 3.53 a. m.
0 4.00 a. m. Between 4.00 a. m. and
•^0 a. m., the Falls and Narrows Sta-
lons picked up to normal load, and
everything was going as usual except
6 2300-volt line, which wasn’t ener-
Sized until Monday, 10.00 a. m.
Hereafter the Falls and Narrows men
1 change shifts the same day. The
Narrows men change shifts the last of
July, so as to be ready to change with
the Falls men next time they change—
the idea being to let the men know each
shift at each plant. This will help great
ly in case of any trouble. The men at
each plant will know better what to do
by knowing each other and how to keep
th’ngs going.
Mr. L. B. Ward and his face is back
with us installing meters and small
transformers on the 2300-volt line which
pulls the city water pumps. It seems
that somebody has got the idea that
meters should be on the city water pump
motors, to show how much power is used.
The recent rain has brought the lake
elevation back up to its' maximum
height, 541, tipping the top of the tain ter
gates. The gross headwater is approx
imately 180 feet, varying slightly ac
cording to the load that station pulls.
There has been enough rain in the month
of July to hold the lake elevation at its
maximum height for a month or more.
The highest temperature showed up
July 25, between noon and 3.30 p. m.
Inside temperature was 34°C, with both
exhaust fans running and all ventilators
open. The temperature on the armature
of No. 1 unit was up around 88°C. The
station was only carrying a light load
of forty-five thousand kilowatts—fifteen
thousand kilowatts on each unit.
Vacation period is now on, and has
been for some time. V. 0. Moore, G. C.
Truesdale, S. E. Killian, and F. C. Rod
gers have had theirs. John Smith left
