But the Badin batters found his offering much to their liking, the result being six big runs. York had the Cross Roads men eating out of his hand, and they were never dangerous. Thus ended the baseball schedule of thirty-four games. Of these thirty-four games, seventeen were victories, fifteen were defeats, and two were tie-games. Only six out-of-town games were played. Several more were scheduled, but rain interfered. Business Manager Harry Smith deserves much credit for the play ing out of the schedule. There is a deal of work connected with the business end of the game, and Harry gave freely of his time and energy to help make this season successful. Sometimes he received mighty good co-operation from the fans; other times he did not; yet he persevered, and now we will all agree that he is entitled to the credit for giving Badin such good baseball during the season. New “Champs” for 1920 The annual tennis tournament of the Racket Club was held on the Club courts, from September 9 to 26, this length fme being necessary owing to the large number of entries in each event. Five events constituted the tournament. These included men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies’ singles, ladies’ doubles, and mixed doubles. Much interest was manifested in the contests by those competing, well as by the large number of spectators who were on hand for each match. Some very brilliant tennis was diS' played throughout the tournament, es pecially in the men's singles and women s singles, which matches came in for much interest and attention by lovers of the sport. The first round of men’s singles suC' ceeded in upholding the prevailing “dope as to the relative strength of the com' petitors, but lacked the interest of th® following matches, many of the played" having drawn “byes,” which put theii’ automatically in the second round. this round probably the most interesting match was that of Wake vs. Richard®) the outcome of which was rather doubt' ful, owing to the closely contested gam® which these men had played in the semi' finals last year. Richards, however, suC' ceeded in winning the match, which one of the> best played this season. third round and semi-finals left to com pete in the finals Moore, who is an e^ ponent of the placing game, and ards, who relies on a terrific serve an a general smashing game. In a played match, in which both contestant® showed a good brand of tennis, Richard® won three sets out of the first four, 6- ’ 7-5, 6-2, thereby winning the title.
