Soccer Team Extends
Win Streak to Four
The Pre-Flight School hooters ex
tended their season record to four vic
tories without tie or defeat by handing
the Davidson Wildcats a 3-0 defeat
last Saturday and continuing with a
4-1 setback of Duke in a contest played
at Durham on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Head Coach Lieut. Earle C. Waters
seemingly had little difficulty replac
ing the five key players who were mem
bers of the Sixth Battalion and went
on to Reserve Bases. Both games
were cleanly played and bitterly
fought, but the blue and gold proved
superior in every department.
Against Davidson, Eddie Finzel,
former Penn State All-American,
scored two goals, one as a result of a
pass from Joe Hewlett. The third
goal was counted from a close scrim
mage in front of the Wildcat goal.
Outstanding play was turned in by
Sloan, Knoeckel, Artnak, and
liams.
Against Duke, the Navy had to come
from behind. The Blue Devils surged
down, the field to score in the first pe
riod, clearly outplaying the fliers until
an aroused attack brought Robertson
a score to tie up the game at half time,
1-1-
From this point on, it was all Navy.
A penalty kick, a powerful shot by
Left Wing Thompson, and a headed
goal by Finzel brought the remaining
goals, although the margin of victory
might easily have been much greater.
Goalie Hoffman, Artnak, and Hewlett
sparkled in defensive play, and Rob
ertson, Sloan, Finzel, and Thompson
led the attack.

best all around sports squadron by
holding onto first place with a total of
2QV2 points. The Coronados retained
the runner-up spot with 22 points while
the Catalinas and Buffaloes shared
third place with 19 points apiece.
Liberty awards for Saturday, Oct.
31, were awarded to the league leading
team in each sport. The teams that
gained this award were the Buffalo
and Helldiver boxing teams, the Devas
tator soccer team, the Coronado foot
ball team, and the Coronado military
track team.
The track season terminated last
week with the Coronados sporting the
only undefeated and untied record with
seven triumphs. The Helldivers finish
ed in second place with six wins and
one loss.
The Devastator soccer team con
tinued to set the pace in its division

feats, and one tie in fourteen starts.
The Wildcats held second place with a
record of ten wins and four losses.

WASHINGTON, D. C., Nov. 6—
The Navy Department is expected to
turn out in force tomorrow night
when the Navy Pre-Flight School
Cloudbusters from Chapel Hill, N. C.,
clash with Georgetown’s Hoyas under
the lights on the football field marked
off on the Griffith Stadium turf, home
of the Washington Senators.
The Hoyas, on the bounce after be
ing knocked off, 47 to 0, last week
by undefeated, untied Boston College,
are expected to put on a show of their
own and the ’Busters may find the
going rough from the opening kickoff.
In anticipation of experiencing trou
ble running against the hefty George
town line, Lieut. Comdr. Jim Crowley
has been working on pass offense this
week and Art Jones, Leonard Esh-
mont, Lou Bufalino and Joe Martin
may throw a few aerials.
While the Hoyas were taking a
trouncing, the Cloudbusters were
handing the Big Orange of Syracuse
its first defeat of the season, 9 to 0,
at Syracuse. The Navy touchdown
came in the second period when Gene
Davis recovered a fumble on the Syra
cuse 16. .On the first play, Martin
passed to Walter Zwiezynski on the
11 and Zwiezynski lateralled to Jones,
who scampered across for the tally,
Hayward Sanford kicked the extra
point.
With 30 seconds remaining in the
game. Tackle Joe Frank broke through
to tackle an opposing back in the
Syracuse end zone for a safety and
the two points.
Frank, a graduate of Georgetown,
will captain the Cloudbusters against
his alma mater. The Navy lineup,
with the exception of Frank at right
tackle, will be the same that opened
fire against Syracuse. Gene Goodre-
ault and John Witkowski will be at
the ends; Steve Hudacek and Frank
at tackles; Charles Pierce and Lou
Young at guards;' and Joe Kovach at
center.
Running in the backfield will be Bill
Krywicki at quarterback; Eshmont
and Zwiezynski at halfbacks and Lou
Bufalino at fullback. This quartet
to lead the pack with five wins in as
many starts with the Skyrockets in
second position with four triumphs and
a tie.

averages 174 pounds. The line tips
the scales at 191 and should take good
care of itself although out-weighed by
the Hoya forwards.
Break-away running and passes are
expected to constitute the majority of
the Cloudbusters’ attack tonight. Line-
crushing weight is lacking in the back
field, with Eshmont, at 185, the heavi
est.
First line reserves include Hayward
Sanford and Vince Dennery at ends;
Herb Maack and John Kuzman at
tackles; Joe Boyd and Harold Dunn
at guards, and Dan Hill, center. Gene
Davis subs for Krywicki at the quar
terback position with Art Jones shar
ing time with Eshmont and Mort
Landsberg going in for Zwiezynski at
right halfback. Martin is expected to
see much service at fullback.
That the Hoyas will be tough is an
accepted fact but just how tough re
mains to be seen. They had lost only
to Detroit, 6 to 0, before last Satur
day’s loss to Boston College, which in
dicates they had what it took until the
tough Eagles started flying high.
Boston College is the lone team to
date that has taken the measure of the
Cloudbusters. That loss was by the
narrow margin of 7 to 6. The ’Bus
ters opened by downing Catawba, 13
to 2; they whipped Harvard, 13 to 0;
played a 14-14 tie with the Georgia
Navy; downed North Carolina State,
19-7; beat Temple, 34-0, and then took
the measure of Syracuse, 9-0.
Remaining games on the schedule
include: Nov. 14—Manhattan College
in New York City; Nov. 21—William
and Mary College at Williamsburg,
Va.; Nov. 28—Fordham University at
New York City; Dec. 5—Colgate Uni
versity at Chapel Hill, N. C.; Dec.
12—Iowa Pre-Flight School at Chapel
Hill.
