Page Six CLOUDBUSTER Saturday, November 14, 1942 No Gas Worry Here One hundred and twenty mem bers of a parachute troop from Fort Bragg arrived here yester day ending a 60-mile hike from Fayetteville. They spent the night in the University Tin Can, and are scheduled to run the ob stacle course here this morning. This afternoon they will attend the Duke-Carolina football game with the Pre-Flight cadets. The hikers are returning the visit of Pre-Flight cadets who hiked to Fort Bragg earlier this fall. Cadets returning from their 16-mile Saturday hike might get a lift from some of the para chute lads—and be thankful they don’t have 44 more miles to go. Beebusters Play Naval Academy “B” Grid Team The Cloudbuster “B” football team yesterday played the Naval Academy “B” team at Thompson Stadium, An napolis, Md., but the usual deadline on news prevents the Cloudbuster from reporting on the outcome in this issue. A Pre-Flight squad of 31 players made the trip, accompanied by Lt. (jg) N. J. Pierce, coach of the Beebusters, and his assistant, Ens. Richard P. Cassiano. « ♦ a-toot-tootV Boot-aj CoitveWJ dn-yt fruits lade from tzv w It - a real "ade" made irom teal fruit BOTTLED UNDER LICENSE FROM TRU-ADE, INC.. (jg) Albert J. Lesko, handed Guilford College a sound 28 to 0 trouncing last Saturday afternoon in a game played in Kenan Stadium. Offensive star of the game was Ca det P. E. Walder who scored three touchdowns for the victors. The fourth touchdown was tallied by Cadet T. Ballou, who set up the first score with a 60-yard run—the longest in the game —during the first quarter. Cadet W. Wenrick kicked for the extra point after each score. BROADCAST (Continued from page one) was presented by the Pre-Flight glee club under the direction of John Toms, of the University music department. Cadet Leydon is now receiving pri mary flight training at the Naval Re serve Aviation Base, Dallas, Tex. Others appearing on the program included Olyn Landick, the Hacken sack Gossip, Major Smith, a marine credited with shooting down 19 Jap planes, and, of course, Ted Collins, as master of ceremonies. Landick is Col lins’ latest comedy discovery. Most of those who appeared on the radio programs are remaining for the Duke-Carolina football game this afternoon. Next week the radio show will be presented from New York. CAROLINA (Continued from page five) Walt Pupa, and Johnny Pecora all set to fill the air with their passes. Pecora is the tailback who passed to Co-captain Joe Austin for the win ning touchdown in the Tar Heel tri umph over Duke two years ago in Kenan Stadium and Carolina fans are hoping for a repetition this year. Teaming up with Myers in the start ing backfield will probably be Clay Croom, plunging back, Mike Cooke, fourth ranking punter in the nation, and Co-captain Joe Austin, brilliant breakaway runner, in the tailback slot. Every seat in the concrete portion of Kenan was sold out days ago but nearly 10,000 seats in the temporary stands were still on sale today but by game time at 2 o’clock every spot in the stadium was expected to be filled. Some Cadets Leave, More Come Aboard Shipmates passing out of the school this past week numbered 233, while an estimate of around 385 reported aboard. Some 327 were sent here by the Na val Aviation Cadet Selection Boards in New York, Boston, and Philadel phia, with 10 coming from the Atlanta recruiting board. The latter are most ly from North Carolina. Fifty-five men from the fleet and Marine Corps have also entered the Pre-Flight training program, as part of the 13th Battalion. The cadets going out were transfer red to Naval Aviation Reserve Bases at Squantum, Mass., Kansas City, Mo., Peru, Ind., Philadelphia, Pa., St. Louis, Mo., Hutchinson, Kan., Grosse lie, Mich., and to the Naval Air Sta tion at Lakehurst, N. In New York, on Armistice Day, she assisted in inducting 100 men into the Mer chant Marine, and in Boston she helped recruit men for the Navy. Jane told us it was fun to appear opposite Ronald Colman in the “Lost Horizon.” Likewise for George Mur phy, the lucky guy in “The Navy Comes Through.” Her claim to stardom thrills her, and she looks forward to return ing to Hollywood to start work on a new picture.
