Lt. Comdr. James P. Raugh, USNR, Executive Officer, who was introduced by Lt. Comdr. Harvey J. Harman, USNR, Athletic Di rector, spoke briefly to the regi ment about the Pre-Flight sports Pi’ogram. John P. Gralf, USN (Ret.), Commanding Officer, before a warmly applaud ing Smoker audience in Memorial Hall last Wednesday evening. In personally congratulating Cadet Anthony E. Kujawinski, 22nd Battalion member from Grand Rapids, Mich., Comdr. Graff read the official letter ad dressed to the young veteran by Admiral R. E. Ingersoll, USN, Commander in Chief of the At lantic Fleet, as follows: “In the name of the President of the United States and by direc tion of the Secretary of the Navy, the Commander in Chief, United States Atlantic Fleet, awards you the Purple Heart in recognition of wounds received by you during an action against a hostile force dur ing the period 8-9 November, 1942.” The Purple Heart, explained See SMOKER, page U Softball League Opens With Eight Teams Competing The Pre-Flight softball league, composed of five officers’ teams and three from the crew, opened play here last Wednesday. Four games were played, with the officers winning two of the three matches played with the en listed men. The officers’ teams have been named after aircraft carriers, Saratoga, Essex, Lexington, Ranger and Enterprise. The three teams from the crew are the Satellites (Yeoman’s Pool), Cow- pens (Signal Corps), and Hos pital Corps. Results of the opening games last Wednesday follow: Lexington 12, Saratoga 9; Essex 14, Hospital Corps 3; Enterprise 19, Cowpens 7; Satellites 7, Ranger 6, The rosters of the eight teams in the softball league follow: SARATOGA: Comdr.
