IT WAS A CASE of double congratulations when Lt. Comdr. Burton
A. Ingwersen, USNR, left, and Lt, Comdr. Harvey J. Harman, USNR,
were snapped in the above photo. Lt. Comdr. Ingwersen has just been
appointed new Athletic Director here, and Lt. Comdr. Harman, who
formerly held the position, has been detached to the Iowa Pre-Flight
School where he will relieve Lt. Col. Bernie Bierman as Athletic
Director and Head Football Coach.

The eleventh V-5 officer indoc
trination course, training 133 well
known coaches and teachers to be
come instructors in the naval
aviation physical fitness program,
is now underway at the Pre-Flight
School here.
Logging aboard froni all sec
tions of the country, they are now
undergoing thirty days study of
naval traditions and customs,
military drill, and physical condi
tioning.
From the major league ball

Out to register their eighth vic
tory against two defeats since
Cadets Theodore Williams, John
Pesky, Joseph Coleman, John Sain,
and Louis Gremp reported here,
the Pre-Flight Cloudbusters will
meet the Army Finance School
from Wake Forest this afternoon
at 1600 on Emerson Field. This
will be the only game to be played
here this week end as the locals go
to Camp Butner tomorrow for a
game with the 311th Infantry
starting at 1430:
While the Army Finance School
nine has no established stars its
record thus far this season has
been very impressive. With the
possible exception of the Cloud
busters, it is the best service nine
in North Carolina.
Enlisted Men
Get New Ratings
Twenty-one enlisted men re
ceived advancements in rating ef
fective June 1, and William Os-
well Melvin, Jr., CY(AA), USN,
reenlisted on board for a period
of four full years. The following
men were advanced: Calvin H.
Brooks, from EM3c to EM2c; John
H. Doty, from SKlc to CSK(AA);
George J. Rebbert, from HAlc to
PhM3c.

this station during the past week.
He will report to the Iowa Pre-
Flight School next week where he
will relieve Lt. Col. Bernie Bier
man as Athletic Director and Head

coached at the University of Penn
sylvania and at Rutgers before be

held the position of Head Football

As Athletic Director, Lt. Comdr.
Harman supervised and directed
the rigorous physical training
program for the cadets. It was
also his responsibility to see that
the varsity sports program ran
smoothly.
When the Regimental Review
observing the first anniversary of
this station was held in Kenan
Stadium recently, Comdr, John P.
Graff, USN (Ret.), on behalf of
the officers, presented a silver
plaque to Lt. Comdr. Harman,
Lt. Comdr. Ingwersen, new Ath
letic Director, served for the past
eight years as line coach at North
western, and for a time prior to
that was head football coach at
the University of Iowa.
