Eric H. Arendt Chaplain Corps, USN This Sunday is once more Communion Sun day for those who attend the General Protest ant Service at Memorial Hall. All Christians regard this Sacrament as the most meaning ful, most intimate, most self-challenging ges ture which we have. As we partake of the elements of Communion, we do so as a group of believers. There is certainly no distinction among us—rather, it is an experience so inti mate that there is no language that is able to give adequate expression to it. The altar be comes the Lord’s Table—it does not belong to any denomination or creed. The Communion which is offered by Navy Chaplains is, of necessity, interdenomina tional. It is meaningful to the participants as they, individually, make it meaningful. All are welcome, regardless of their particular brand of religion and there is no compunction which “inflicts” it upon worshippers. The Episcopalian cadets, this Sunday, will be given the opportunity to leave the General Service in ample time to take Communion in their own Church. This is made possible be cause of the practical reasons involved. Of course, anyone who will find the Navy Com munion adequate for his spiritual needs, is most cordially invited to remain and share the Common Table and Purpose with his ship mates. Allow me to make a prediction. As time goes on, and the Cadets make their progressive steps which will eventually culminate in the receipt of Commissions and Wings, the experi ence which we share together in Church each Sunday—and especially on Communion Sun day—will become increasingly meaningful to them. I know from practical experience that “what makes a man a good Christian, makes a man a good shipmate.” Fifteen New Officers Report For Duty Here The following 15 officers reported for duty at this station during the past week: Lt. ( A reasonably complete and well-organized review of the Naval Aviation program from Flight Selection Board through Pre-Flight School, and Naval Air Station to Carrier; Many thought-provoking comments on con troversial questions such as an independent air force, carrier versus battleship; inquiring and illuminating; does not suffer from the bias of preconceived convictions, dogmatically stated; of interest to all connected with Naval Aviation, particularly those at Chapel Hill, from which much of the material has been drawn. —RK Male Call What the Newsreel Did Not Show by Milton Canifif, creator of “Terry and the Pirates” ConVtl&iT 1943 w
