All-Cadet War Boiid Drive Gets Underway
It IVas Their Idea
Cadets Owen and Yeannopoulos
Planned Variety Smoker
Something new in the way of station Smokers was the one held last
night, in that it was planned and arranged by cadets in cooperation
with the Welfare and Recreation Office.
Cadet leaders in staging the variety show were Paul Owen (pic
tured on the left above), former featured soloist with Fred Waring s
band, and Charles Yeannopoulos (on the right), who served as master
of ceremonies on the program.^
Both are members of the senior
23rd Battalion.
Music in many moods high
lighted the affair, including num
bers by the glee club, hot swing
by the Pre-Flight band, harmoniz
ing by the Foard, Cook & Cowan
trio, violin selections by Arthur
Senderoff, vocalizing by Paul
Owen and Herach Der Hovsepian,
cind fast key work on the piano by
Bronson Tufts and J. B. Rhodes.
Fancy baton twirling by Joseph
Berube, a recitation by Williani
Bragaw, tap dancing by Frank
Kopf, and a jitterbug session by
“Jo and Charlie” gave popular
Variety to the show.

Those Who Will Fly the Planes
Have Chance to Purchase Them
The boys who are going to fly the planes will have an oppotrunity
to help purchase them in the first All-Cadet Bond Drive which gets
underway at this station on next Tuesday.
War Bond posters were placed throughout the station during the
past week, and cadets will file application to purchase bonds when
they meet their Communication classes in Manning Hall on Tuesday.
This drive marks the third that*®’ “
has been made at this station in
recent months. On Pearl Harbor
Day, last December 7, station per
sonnel pledged $38,811. In early
spring an All-Officer drive was
held which proved highly success
ful.
Sponsored by the Military De
partment under the direction of
Lieut. J. E. Wadsworth, USNR,
and Ensign John C. Busby, Jr.,
USNR, assistant disbursing of
ficer, the present drive is being
held in connection with a move
ment throughout the Navy to get
Naval Personnel to purchase more
War Bonds.
“It is our hope that every
platoon and battalion will be one
hundred per cent in purchasing
bonds,” Lieut. Wadsworth stated
yesterday. “Results of the drive
will be printed in the Cloud-
BUSTER.”
Cadets who are on watch Tues
day will have an opportunity to
purchase bonds at a later date.
Buying War Bonds is not a
contribution but an investment,”
Lieut. Wadsworth pointed out.
“The purchase of a bond is no sac
rifice, but an investment which of
fers the same advantages to men
in service as to civilian buyers.”

Admiral Ernest J. King, Commander-in-Chief United States
Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations, says:
“You are not asked to give but merely to lend 10 percent
of your income to help us bring this war to a victorious end.
You can do it systematically and most conveniently through
the Government’s Payroll Savings Plan. I urge you to do this.”
