To Teach New Pre-Flight Course

Craighead, USNR. The three officers took 600 cadets out from Chapel
Hill last Saturday morning and gave them special instruction in
“Self-Preservation.” The Craigheads, who incidently are twins, have
just completed a book on the subject which will be used in all the
Pre-Flight Schools.

Personnel Changes
Lieutenant Robert D. Robinson,
USNR, Drill Master, was detached
this week from this station and is
to proceed to San Francisco, Com
mandant twelfth Naval district,
and from there will report to Com
mander, Fleet Air, South.
Robert George Harris, SM2c,
reports to the NACSB at Dallas,
Texas.
“Self-Preservation” Becomes
Part of Pre-Flight Training
Last Saturday morning Lieut. George D. Kepler, USNR, and En
signs John and Frank Craighead, USNR, took some 600 cadets and a
group of visiting newspapermen some five miles out from Chapel Hill
and gave them some first hand instruction in the newest wrinkle in
Pre-Flight training—“Self-Preservation.”
The three officers had just returned to Chapel Hill from Washington.
^The Craigheads had been there for
some time, Lt. Kepler for the past
three weeks. Just completed is a
book by the Craigheads on “Self-
Preservation.” But more about
that later, let’s talk about the trip
last Saturday morning.
Just as soon as the party ar
rived at its destination the Craig
heads had the entire group amazed
at their thorough knowledge of
the outdoors.
Young John cut a grape vine,
and from a section of the limb
about two yards long had good
drinking water dropping so stead
ily that he passed it around and
half-dozen onlookers caught
enough to fill a cup. No one should
die of thirst in the jungles, the
Craigheads say.

Carmine Gagliardi
To Present Concert
On Campus Tonight
Technical Sergeant Carmine
Gagliardi, former soloist on the
Ford Sunday Evening Hour, will
present a special concert for all
military units on the campus to
night at 2000 in Memorial Hall.
The public is invited.

YMCA, the program should ap
peal greatly to the many Gagliardi
followers in Chapel Hill.
Technical Sergeant Gagliardi is
considered one of the greatest
tenors of our time. He has been

week by week, the progress and the activities of this Pre-Flight
