To Perform
Here April 17
The Regiment of Cadets, offi
cers, and crew will be in for an
evening of topflight entertainment
on Monday, April 17, when the
Camel Caravan rolls into Chapel
Hill to put on their show for Navy
Pre-Flight personnel.
Following the special Pre-Flight
showing which is scheduled for
1900 in Memorial Hall, a second
performance will be given for the
university and townspeople start
ing at 2100.
Included in the Caravan of tal-
en;t are the Morgan Sisters, a trio
of tunesters who have been fea
tured in numerous stage shows; a
trampoline team of Jay and Paul
ette who let go with acrobatic
routines; the Camelaires, a com
pact orchestra that gives out with
ballads, torch tunes, jive, and
boogie-woogie alike; Clyde Hager,
who does a take-off on a pitch
man’s spiel; some fancy bass fid
dle thumping by Clarence Hart
man; and versatile vocalizing by
Ellen Sutton who is billed as a
“one-gal melody barrage.”
Master of ceremonies for the
show is Tom Hanlon, comedian-
magician.

Personnel Changes
Among the three officers de
tached during the past week was
Lieut. George J. Grewenow,
USNR, chaplain, who received
orders to report to Coml2, San
Francisco, Calif. Lieut. George
Cummins, USNR, has reported
aboard to succeed him as chaplain.
Two other officers detached were
Lieut. John Miller,^USNR, head
coach, swimming, who reports to
Chief Naval Operations, Navy De
partment, Washington, D. C., and
Lieut. John V. R. Logan, USNR,
training department, who is to re
port to Commander Fleet Air West
Coast, San Diego.
Nine Enlisted Men
Advance in Rate
Nine enlisted men were ad
vanced in rating, effective April 1.
Edward. F. Morelli was ad
vanced from Bugle to Y3c; Joseph
S. Deptula and Sidney Findel,
from HA2c to HAlc; Lawrence A.
Caldwell and Frank H. Machia-
verna, from HAlc to PhM3c; Wil
liam C. Kirkpatrick and James B.
Nelson, from S2c to Sic; and
Joseph B. Neville and Herbert R.
Thunstrom, from Sk2c to Sklc.
Norman E. Coffin, CPhM(AA),
USN, reported aboard this week
from RecShip, San Francisco.
Regimental
Review Planned
For 1430 Today
Commander John P. Graff,
USN (Ret.), will relinquish com
mand of the U. S. Navy Pre-Flight
School, Chapel Hill at a Regi
mental Review at 1430 Saturday,
April 8. In accordance with orders
he will turn the Command over to
Lieutenant Commander James P.
Raugh, DE-V (S), USNR, and will
report to the Bureau of Naval Per
sonnel for temporary duty and for
later assignment to a station out
side the continental limits.
Comdr. Graff completed two
years of service at this station
last March 27.
Comdr. John Packard Graff,
USN (Ret.), Commanding Officer
of the U. S. Navy Pre-Flight
School, Chapel Hill, N. C., was
born in Sharon, Pa., on August
24, 1896. He spent his boyhood
in Greenville, Pa., and graduated
from high school in 1915. That
fall he was appointed to the U. S.
Naval Academy, by Hon. Samuel
H. Miller, M.C. from the 28th Dis
trict of Pennsylvania, and after
attending Prep School at “Buck
Wilmer’s War College” he passed
the entrance examinations and en
tered Annapolis in June 1916. His
roommates at the Naval Academy
were Midshipmen (now Captains)
M. H. Kernodle of Graham, N. C.,
and Cato D. Glover of Montgom
ery, Alabama.
When the United States went
to war in April 1917, the regular
four year course at Annapolis was
shortened to three years, and
Comdr. Graff was graduated in
June 1919 with the Class of 1920.
He spent seven months at sea
with the Atlantic Fleet during the
war.
While a Midshipman, Comdr.
Graff was a member of the Eight
