Mustangs Return To Top Position In Sports Program The see-saw race for top posi tion in the Sports Program con tinues as the Mustangs overtake the Kingfishers and again move into first place. The margin, hov^^ever, is but by one point, and the Kingfishers could easily move into top position again should their record of yes terday afternoon be a good one. The leaders have a total of S8V2 points, while the Kingfishers, in second place, have 8TV2. Follow, in order, the Wildcats with 84, Skyrockets 79, Devastators 70%, Buccaneers, 69%, Buffalos 69, Catalinas 63, Vindicators 62, Cor onados 59, Helldivers 48, and Ma riners 44. Only in gym and tumbling are the leaders undefeated. Their record in other sports show four wins against two losses in wrest ling, two wins against three losses in boxing, four wins and two losses in swimming, four wins and one loss in soccer, and five wins against a like number of defeats in basketball. The Kingfishers are undefeated in swimming, while the fourth place Skyrockets have a perfect record of six straight wins in box ing. Other than the above two, the Buccaneers have won six straight swimming meets, and the Vindicators have only a tie to mar their soccer record. Cloudhusters Will Play N. C. State On Easter Monday Next Monday afternoon the U. S, Navy Pre-Flight Cloudbust- ers will officially open their 1944 baseball season at Raleigh with a game against N. C. State, and the first home game will be played with Duke on Emerson Field next Saturday. Lieut. W. Glenn Killinger, USNR, head coach of baseball, has named a tentative starting lineup for both contests and pre dicts that the Pre-Flighters will make a good showing in the newly formed “Ration League” which is composed of Duke, N. C. State, the University of North Carolina and Pre-Flight. Cadet R. L. Somerville will start on the mound in the Monday game, and Cadet J. A. Farley will get the tough assignment against Duke. In other positions the same cadets will start both games. Leadoff man and secondbaseman is Cadet P. A. Gaulin, who played professionally in the Eastern Shore League. H. D. Thompson, who last year played with Duke, will follow Gaulin in the batting order and play shortstop. The third hitter is Cadet A. M. Barnes, the left fielder, while J. George W. Cummins, L^SNR, who this week replaced Lieut. George J. Grewenow, l^snr, as chaplain at this station, just returned from seventeen Months of sea duty in the Atlantic. Lieut. Cummins was commis sioned a Lt. (jg) CHC-V(S) on 1, 1942. He received his in- ^^trination training at the Chap lains’ School, NOB Norfolk. Prom September of ’42 until '^arch 11 of this year, he sei’ved aboard the XJSS New Ym'k doing ^onvoy duty and participating in shore bombardment of North ^^I'ica at both Safi and Casa- ^ianca.
