Farewell Ceremonies Held For Comdr. Graff

The Senior Battalion Dance for
^nembers of the 45th Battalion will
be held in the Pine Room of Lenoir
Hall on Saturday, April 22, from
2100 to 2400.
Refreshments will be served,
snd music will be furnished by the
swing section of the Pre-Flight
band.

FAREWELL CEREMONIES for Comdr. John P. Graff, USN (Ret.),
Commanding Officer of the Navy Pre-Flight School here since Novem
ber, 1942, were held last Saturday afternoon in Kenan Stadium. On
the extreme left is pictured Comdr. Graff as he delivered his farewell
speech, while on the right, Lieut. Comdr. Raugh, USNR, the new Com
manding Officer, is shown as he addressed the officers, cadets, enlisted
men, and visitors present for the special occasion. The center photo,
above, shows Comdr. Graff, seated at his desk, with Lieut. Comdr.
Raugh, standing. The latter served as Executive Officer under Comdr.
Graff.

19 Officers
Are Promoted
On April 1
AlNav 73, issued recently by
the Navy Department, brought
good news in the form of promo
tions to 19 Pre-Flight officers here
effective April 1.
Promoted by the measure were
all lieutenants (jg) and ensigns
who have been on active duty on
or before March 1, 1943.
The 10 officers promoted to the
rank of senior lieutenant here in
clude Frederick Ambellan, in
structor, navigation; Henry M.
Brabham, instructor, ENS; Max
J. Chapman, assistant coach, hand
to hand; Gordon M. Clark, assist
ant athletic director; Sylvester S.
HoUobaugh, assistant coach,
wrestling; Harold D. Lindsay,
