Outdoor Pool To Be Dedicated Tonight
Capt. Tom Hamilton
Lauds Pre-Flight’s
"Splendid Record’
Words of congratulations on
the recent third anniversary of
this Pre-Flight School, which has
“established a splendid record of
achievement,” have been re
ceived by the Skipper from Capt.
Tom J. Hamilton, USN, first head
of physical and military training
for Naval Aviation.
“Your school has just com
pleted three years of distin
guished service,” Capt. Hamilton
wrote. “I wish to write and con
gratulate you and the officers
and men of your command on
the splendid accomplishments of
your school throughout its con
centrated existence.
“Dedicated to a mission of pro
viding fundamental training for
the most effective military force
of this war, Carolina Pre-Flight
has fulfilled its objectives and es
tablished a splendid record ot
achievement which is written in
the deeds of its many graduates
who have been inflicting such
great damage to our enemy, the
Japanese. Another token of the
school’s success has been the fine
performance of duty of officers
and enlisted men stationed there
who have accepted greater re
sponsibilities in the fleet and
have carried them off with flying
colors. ...
“It has been my good fortune
to have lived closely with these
pilots, to observe them in the
heat of battle, and to watch the
succeeding groups come and go.
It is my opinion that they get
better as time goes on and leave
nothing to be desired in the way
of courage, determination, su
preme skill, and the possession of
cool resourcefulness and daring
initiative which has been the
great characteristic of American
youth.”

Extra Cash Sale Passes Third Week
As the third week of the War^
Bond Drive on this station closes,
a compilation of the sales to date
shows that the Pre-Flight School
has purchased nearly $25,000 in
War Bonds. , ^ ,
Today the official Independ
ence Day Drive will begin at
naval activities throughout the
country, and will last until July
7 th. It is expected that the clos
ing day of the drive will find the
Pre-Flight School well ahead of
its quota.
Application blanks have been
distributed to all cadets so that
they can be prepared for partici
pation in the drive.
Most of the bonds purchased
to date have been bought by the
officers and by Navy civilian
workers. i +
This will be the Navy s last
“Cash” War Bond Sale, and it is
anticipated that all hands will
cooperate to the utmost in mak
ing this last drive a success.
Naval personnel will continue to
buy their bonds through the pay
roll allotment plan.
Underwriting the Future
When we buy a War Bond we
are buying future wantg at 75
cents on the dollar, at the same
time aiding in financing the war
to crush the Japs.
Former Instructor Here
Is WAVE Air Navigator
Lieut. Zora Cernich, former
navigation instructor here, is one
of the 80 WAVE officers recently
designated by the Navy Depart
ment as Naval Air Navigators—
the first women officers in any
U. S. military organization en
titled to serve in military air
crews.
The 80 members of the Wom
en’s Reserve who won their
wings may now take assignments
as trans-ocean navigators in
those areas where WAVES are
permitted to serve.
Knew His Way Around
New York (CNS) — Floyd
Goodrich, a merchant seaman
from Detroit, told police he
rented a room here, then went
out to eat and couldn’t find his
way back. He gave police one
valuable clue to the location of
his room, however. He said it
was in either Manhattan, Brook
lyn, Queens, the Bronx, or
Staten Island.
