Page Four CLOUDBUSTER—SPORTS Friday, August 24, 1945 ’Buster Grid Squad Shows Good Team Spirit In Workouts CLOUDBUSTER COACHES—^The quintet of coaches who will guide the Cloudbusters through their rugged nine-game schedule this year are, left to right: Lt. Frank C. Albert, one of the great est backs in the country while at Stanford in 1941, who is handling the backfield; Lt. Ray R. Bray, from Western Michigan and ex-Chicago Bear, who is in charge of the guards; Lt. Comdr. Paul H. Bryant, former Alabama star, who is head coach; Lt. Carney G. Laslie, another Alabama ace lineman, line coach, and Lt. John F. Druze, former Fordham grid star, end coach. As the Cloudbuster squad went to work this week to iron out the usual early season flaws, Lt. Comdr. Paul Bryant, head coach, indicated he is well pleased with the team spirit and enthusiasm shown in the prac tice sessions and in the scrim mage held last Saturday. The fine team spirit, he said, is espe cially encouraging in view of the interruptions last week by the rainy weather and peace celebration. Backs who showed well in the week-end scrimmage include Jimmy Allen, from Nashville, Tenn., whose good all around play included several long runs; J. B. Gregg, from Monroe, La., who scampered more than 90 yards for a touchdown; Harry Bonk, 195-pound fullback from Coram, N. Y., whose downfield blocking attracted attention; Vic Turyn, Holden, W. Va., who con tributed good quarterbacking and ball handling, and J. R. Del Signore, McKeesport, Pa., whose defensive play was outstanding. Dance for 68th Battalion Saturday at Country Club A dance will be held Satur day evening for cadets of the 68th Battalion from 2100 to 2400 at the Chapel Hill Country Club. The dance, sponsored by the Welfare department, will have music furnished by the Cloudbuster swing band. Re freshments will be served during the evening. You liked it, so from now, on it’s “Crew-cial News.” V-J Day, points, going home, victory, discharges, confusing, isn’t it? These words and many more have been running through our minds since that memorable night of August 14, 1945. Who can forget that night when we met at the Cruise Club to cele brate. Not a Sad Sack in the crowd, happiness 4.0, laughter, irrelevant songs such as “My Wild Irish Rose” and “Bell Bot tom Trousers,” and plenty of re freshments on the house. Jack Baumring, PhM2c, prophesied a rosy future for himself as own er of an Army-Navy store, and John Hinkle, CBM, planned to open a garden, not the flower kind, in Yonkers. Since that night, life has be come solemn, almost gloomy as the word “frozen” walked into some people’s lives. Still the WAVES go on dreaming of fur coats, frilly blouses, nylons, and cars.
