The stockinKS "ere hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that Saint Nicholas soon woulil be there. The children were nestled all .‘inut? in their l>etls, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And Mama in her kerchief and 1 in my cap. Had just settled down for a lon^ winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, 1 sprang from my bed to st-e what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash. Tore open the shutters and threw up the sa.sh. The moon on the »»n-ast of thr new-fallen snow. Gave a luster of midday to objects lielow. When, what to my wonderinj; eyes should appear, Hut a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer; With a little old driver, so lively and cjuick, 1 knew in a moment it must l>e St. Nick. More rapid than eagl<-s his coursers they came. And he whistled, and shouted, and called them liy name: “Now, IJasher, now, Dancer! n«»w, Trancerl and \ixen! On, Comet! on, Cupii!! on, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch, to the toj) of the wall! Now, dash away, dash away, dash away all. As dry leaves that liefore the wild hurricane fly. When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew With a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, loo. And then in a twinkle, I beard on the roof The prancing and i>awing of each little hoof. As 1 drew in my head, and was turning around. Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot. And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a [leddler just oi)ening his pack. His eyes how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry. His droll little mouth wa.-, drawn uj, like a 1j«w, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pil>e he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encirckd his head like a wrea . He had a broad face -nd little round U-Hy That shook, when he laughed, like a bowl full of jc y. He was chubby and plump, a right jolty old elf. And 1 laughed when 1 saw him, in spiU- of myself. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head. Soon gave me to know 1 had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight t« his work. And filled all the stockings; then turiR-d with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose. And giving a nod, up tlie chimney he rose. He sprang to his sleigh, to his Uam gave a whistle. And away they all fk-w like the down on a this le. But 1 heard him exclaim as he drove out of "Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night. i Kn«\v Your Plant. iShop Resp(>ii8il)le For Plant Maiiiteiiaiice THE ravages of time and the wear and tear on machinery of daily operatii>n reiiuiie the .-ioi- vices of skilled maintenance and repair men. .-^t a plant the size of Kirestone Textiles 'a large staff of mill wrighls, carjienters. pipe fitters, electricians, lathe opera tors, bench men, etc., are neeiled to keep the physical efficiency of ^_ the plant at a high level.
