Johnson: His mush is carps' undoing. With him is a grandson. Marcus Johnson. He Keeps The Skillet Good ^n’ Greasy Talk about a taste delight in “Red” W. A. Johnson’s company, and he’ll bring you to the subject of fish—carp in particular. The retired Firestone man keeps the skillet greasy at his house on South Liberty Street, so’s to take care of the carp he harvests almost year-round. Secret of his success appears to be in the spe cial recipe for his own “mush” bait which en tices many a carp to his destination. The biggest one Johnson ever caught weighed 17 pounds, 3 ounces. The picture here was made on the edge of Lake James at Camp Firestone in late summer. On the string: Six carp, the biggest one 7 pounds. He went back this fall for the Johnson family reunion but took time out from the visiting to land 13 more carp. How fix ’em right? Says Red; Scale, take out mud vein and large center bone. Chop crosswise into steaks. Soak in salt-soda water overnight. Drain and sprinkle with lemon juice. Roll pieces in breading of plain flour, cornmeal and pan cake flour, with dash of salt and black pepper. Fry in deep fat. Behold a treat! Richard D. Meyer, a retired Army lieutenant general, has been named assistant to the Firestone company president, Earl B. Hathaway. “General Meyer’s broad background in engineering, transportation and logistics will be of great value to our company,” said Mr. Hath away. Meyer retired after 34 years of Army service—the last four as director for logistics. Joint Staff, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington.
