PLANT MANAGER'S MESSAGE
By: J. Anand
MR. JOHN SPERR will be retiring
October 18th after thirty-three
years of valuable service with
Firestone. We wish him the best of
luck.
Our new President, MR. CHUCK
RAMSEY, should arrive Monday,
September 30th. MR. RAMSEY joined
our company in 1970 and has held
positions in field and corporate
auditing, as well as serving as
controller of Bloomington, Illinois
and Wilson, North Carolina plants and
General Manager of the Tube Division.
Welcome, MR. RAMSEY.
Congratulations to the Blue Ribbon
Safety Contest winners for nine
months without an incident. Quite an
accomplishment!
During the month of August we had
three reported safety incidents. We
must refocus our efforts to our
number one priority - SAFETY.
The United Way Campaign is under
way. With teamwork and your
participation we should reach our
goal. Thank you all for your
support.

SAFETY & HOUSEKEEPING
By; Fay Lewis
We are proud of the progress made in
safety and housekeeping this year.
Two new teams, Sulzer Splicing and
First Floor Weaving, were formed
since June.
Thanks to everyone in Maintenance
for their help in making our
housekeeping improvements a success!
We've worked together to have less
accidents this half of the year.
If anyone would like to start a
Safety and Housekeeping Team, please
contact JOE GILREATH, BILL PASSMORE
or FAY LEWIS.
A CLEAN PLACE IS A SAFE PLACE.
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SAFETY
1. LEARN the safe way to do your
job before you start.
2. THINK safety and ACT safely at
all times.
3. OBEY safety rules and
regulations - they are for your
protection.
4. WEAR proper clothing and
protective equipment.
5. CONDUCT yourself properly at all
times - horseplay is prohibited.
6. OPERATE only the equipment you
are authorized to use.
7. INSPECT tools and equipment for
safe conditions before starting
work.
8. ADVISE your supervisor promptly
of any unsafe condition or
practice.
9. REPORT any injury immediately to
your supervisor.
10. SUPPORT your Safety Program and
take an active part in safety.
Remember ~ it takes one minute to
write a safety rule, one half hour to
hold a safety meeting, one week to
plan a safety program, one month to
put in operation, one year to win a
safety award, one lifetime to be a
safe worker — but only ONE SECOND to
destroy all this with one accident.
