Based on National Safety Council studies the safest place you can be is at work, which brings me to my subject this month. Home Safety: Recently I know of two eye injuries to Firestone employees that could have resulted in loss of vision in one or both eyes. These employees were not wearing safety glasses. Safety glasses should be used at home for your projects such as cutting grass, driving nails and especially using weed eaters. Think of the things you could no longer enjoy if you lost your vision. Take your safety glasses home and use them. Your eyes are one of your greatest gifts. SKILLED SAFETY As people gain more skill in their jobs, some of them take the attitude that their chances of having an accident are much smaller. "NOT NECESSARILY SO." Knowledge of a job, related equipment and hazard potential should make accidents less probable, but all too often familiarity breeds inattentiveness and carelessness. Wiser people use their increasing abilities and job knowledge to increase their safety skills as well. They're glad they haven't had an accident, and they work attentively to make sure they keep it that way for themselves and everyone else. If you're one of these people, you can feel proud. Yet you won't be found out they're boasting - just watching and ready to prevent an accident. WORK SMART - WORK SAFE!
