TOP CONTEST CLOSES GRAPEFRUIT LEAGUE PLAY OPENS
RICHMOND, LYNCHBURG, ASHEVILLE CONTEST CHAMPIONS
Piedmont's Tournament of Prizes roared to a finish midnight, March 31st, with a thrill
ing stretch drive. Right down to the wire it was never certain who would be the win
ner in the AAA League, but when it was all over but the shouting, Richmond nosed out
Roanoke for the title. In the AA League, Lynchburg won out over their nearest rival,
Charlotte, by a comfortable margin, and
in the A League, Asheville squeaked by
Beckley in a close one.
Roanoke suffered a crushing blow to their
championship hopes on the last day of the
contest when, with over 100 passengers
booked, the rains came, and not a single
flight got into their station all day. How
ever, Roanoke's loss was Richmond's gain,
and Rose's lads emerged bloody but un
bowed .
Those of us who were lucky enough to
draw a championship team are the proud
owners of on extra 2000 points in the TOP
Contest, a lucrative haul by any stand
ards. Checks for the points will soon be
forthcoming, Mr. Golson announced to
day.
Winners for the month of March in the
three Leagues were, in order, ROA, CVG,
RIC, SDF, and TRI in the AAA League,
LYH, FAY, and CLT in the AA League,
and KSN, DAN, EWN, and NNW in the
A League, Checks for these points are
also being drawn up.
Mr, Golson said that he felt that sales
would feel the results of the contest for
many months to come, and that there is
no question in his mind but that we will
profit from the nearly 10,000 Credit Cards
that will be issued. Several reports have
come in from first-riders who decided to
fly solely because they happened to have
a Credit Card, and it is apparent that
business from this source will increase,
particularly during the vacation months.
March winds, premature April showers,
and the Deputy Collector of Internal Rev
enue combined forces in March to deal a
crippling blow to the quota. Passengers
hauled in March totalled 91.19 percent
of system quota, LYH and KSN alone go
ing over 100 percent. For the entire
three months period, only RIC, ROA,
LYH and CLT averaged over 100 percent
of quota. Congratulations to the winners!
Let's carry the same selling spirit into the
months ahead.

AIRLINE MAINTENANCE
DEFEATS FIXED BASE IN FINALS
The perennial bowling champions from INT
Fixed Base were dethroned March 26 by
a surprisingly strong underdog Airline
Ma intenance team. Fixed Base, who won
the first half of the season, lost the play
off, two out of three games,to the second-
half champions.
Members of Airline Maintenance included
Bob Rothrock, Bob Foreman, Lester Brown,
Reid Cook, and John Rehder. Keglers on
the losing Fixed Base team were Eddie
Culler, Joe Culler, Othel Waggoner,
John Hall and Tom Hyder.
Teams from Radio, Accounting and Acces
sory Overhaul combined with the first and
second-half winners to make this one of
the most interesting seasons in several
years.
