G.Joseph Minetti has been appointed by President Eisenhower to succeed Josh . Lee, longtime member of the CAB whose term expired December 31 . Mr. Minetti is a member of the Federal Maritime Commission and will probably continue to serve on the Commission until his appointment to the CAB is confirmed by Congress. Capitol Airlines introduced Viscount ser vice between NewYork-Pittsburgh-Chicogo December 1 . Non-stop Viscount service New York to Chicago is planned early this year. Only Allegheny and Mohawk Airlines re main to be permanently certificated as local service airlines. It is expected that the two remaining certificates will be issued soon, but at press time they have not been written. But a woman can achieve the same By just depending on the frame. r % INT VOLUNTEERS FIGHT LOCAL FOREST FIRE TWO MORE TRANSPORTS TO FLY THE ROUTE OF THE PACEMAKERS Piedmont Airl ines began the New Year with the purchase of a DC-3 from Pacific South west Airways of San Diego, California. H . K. Saunders and H. M.Cartwright brought the aircraft to the Company's overhaul base in [NT to await modification for service. The new ship, N95487, will re quire conversion to Piedmont's standards before being placed on scheduled operation and Is being utilized for transition and check rides until maintenance can sche dule them in for overhaul . Another plane,purchased from Western Air Lines, Los Angeles, is still on the west coast undergoing maintenance before be ing brought to INT. The addition of these two airplanes brings the total strength of the Pacemaker fleet to 19, including 967, which is on lease from Northeast Airlines. A forest fire that burned over 150 acres of hardwood northwest of Winston-Salem kept 75 volunteers on the job all night to pre vent it spreading Into Cumberland Knob Park and Raven Knob Boy Scout Camp. Piedmont's own Stan Brunt and Capitol agent, Frank Gregory, led their scout troops working along side forest rangers when the call for volunteers went out.The volunteers, bundled In layers of clothing , fought not only the fire but spitting snow and cold wind. The temperature on the mountain was recorded as 10 degrees above zero and the wind from over the crests was gusty to 40 mph. District Ranger, Ross Reeves, of Doughton Park said, "Those Boy Scouts are doing one of the finest jobs we could ask of anybody," and added, "It sure was a pretty sight to see those boys coming up ********* * * ** ■ ** ********** ***********1* here. **
