CHARLESTON - You‘ve heard it sold that there is always news in CHW... .the writer is sorry to say that part of our news this month is most sad! To our greatest disappointment CHW lost its station manager. Jack Kelley. Jack is in INT preparing to fly as co*pilot for PA^ and we do miss him. ,. .now don't get us wrong, we're pleased that our " Smiling Jack" will finally do the flying he has wanted to do for so long, we think PA I fortunate in having him on the line, but CHW is I ike a big family and it lost one fine leader and friend when Jack left. Best of luck, and drop in and see us. Jack. A party was held in Jack's honor a few nights before he left. The event was held in the Skychef Club Room at the Airport. Many people dropped in during the evening.... employees of CAA,weather bureau. Capi tal, American, Piedmont, and Eastern Air Lines, as well as employees of Skychef, insurance counters and rent-a-cars booths in the terminal building. Jack received several nice gifts. The evening was spent in dancing and visiting and Joe High was Master of Ceremonies. The evening ended in ner’* tragedy. Paul Kelley was driving home a.\d went over an embankment. Paul has been in the hospital since that time with a fractured back, sprained shoulder and they took several stitches in the back of his h e ad. Although he is feeling somewhat better, he will be in a cast for 12weeks. We are awaiting a speedy recovery from ole' "P.K.", another one whose presence is missed. We do appreciate Jay Johnson coming over from BKW to help us out in our shortage of help. We assure you that Chief Agent Irwin Apple is doing a good job keeping CHW in tops of operations. Jack, the loyalty ofall your employees is being re flected In cooperation to Irwin and PAI. We enjoyed a visit from Turby and Ken Ross this month, although they didn't stay long enough for all of us to get together come back real soon. Looking forward to a busy passenger season with summer traveling weather in sight. We're really aiming for that 3,000 we were so close to last summer.. .plan to run stiff competition with you all. GREENSBORO - Welcome to our new agent Glenn Smith, who came to us from Pink Hill, N.C, He Is catching on to the operation and pro - cedures fine. Sorry to have Bud Sizemore leave us. He was transferred to |NT“F. Sure do miss him and hope he enjoys him self In his home town. Wei I, the furniture show is over and we are glad as we are recuperating from all our headaches, especially account of so many NO SHOS. Glad to have Betty Breeden visit us the other week. An audit crew from the Civil Aeronautics Board arrived on May 10 to conduct an audit of the accounts and records of Pied mont Aviation, Inc. One of the group, Mr. Carl T. Day, has previously assisted In conducting an audit of Piedmont and the other three members are here for the first time. These three members are; Mr. Claude P. Sarsfleld,in charge of the group, Mr. Charles F. Maloy and Mr. Charles F. Rockhold. The audit will consist of two parts;an audit of our subsidy claims since October 1,1953, and an audit of the financial records since July 1, 1953. FORMER PAI PILOT RECEIVES AIR FORCE HONORS Aviation Cadet Alfred L. Williams, for two years apilot with PAI,will be honor ed as the Outstanding Cadet of Flying Training Air Force when his class, 56-N, i^s graduated from Reese Air Force Base multi-engine pilot training program on May 14. Cadet Williams flew about 1700 hours in commercial aircraft prior to entering the pilot training program In January, 1955. He spent about three years with PAI, the first year as a station agent. Williams is a 1950 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School In Richmond, Va. He was selected as outstanding on the basis of high grades In flying, academic, and mil itary training in pre-flight, primary pilot training, and basic pilot training. Al is expected to resume his duties as First Officer with Piedmont In July, 1956. - 3 -
