Roland Boardman, Bob Gift, Ed Culler, Les Holmes PIEDMONT AVIATION NAMED OFFICIAL PIPER SERVICE AGENCY AIRLINES APPROVE PLAN TO CUT NO-SHOW LOSSES Effective on September 16, the first phase of a two-phase plan designed to permit scheduled airlines to provide a higher standard of service to better meet the tronsportation needs of the public were revealed by the Air Traffic Conference of America, a Division of the Air Transport Association. The plan is aimed at eliminating "sold- out" flights taking off with empty seats,a problem which affects both the public and the airlines. This situation is created by passengers changing their travel plans and delaying the cancellation of their reser vations until a short time before departure, or failing to cancel the reservation at all. This results in seats becoming available too late to permit resale, thereby denying use of the seats by other travelers who might have wanted them. The initial program establishes minimum time limits on ticket reservations and re quires that a passenger who makes an ad vance reservation, pick up his confirmed ticket before a deadl ine set by the air line. Failure to pick up the confirmed ticket by the deadline will result in the cancellation of the reservation. The second phase calls for the assessment of a late cancellation service charge and a "no-show" penalty whenever the passeng er fails to use his reserved space. Implemen tation of the service charge and penalty, which is subject to approval by the CAB, wil I be the subject of further consideration by the airl ines after the results of phase one have been reviewed. ******** ***** In line with the Piper Aircraft Company's new pol icy of establ ishing factory certified repair stations throughout the world, provid ing service by factory trained men.
