FIFTEEN YEAR PIN
PRESENTED TO SAUNDERS
H.K. Saunders, Vice President of Oper
ations, was presented with a pearl studded
service pin by President Tom Davis on
January 14th in recognition of his fifteen
years service with Piedmont Aviation.
Mr. Saunders, or "Zeke" as he Is better
known, joined Piedmont Aviation in 1941
as a Flight Instructor. With the exception
of a two year mil itary leave of absence to
serve in the Air Transport Command, he
continued in the capacity of FI ight Instruch-
or and Chief Pilot of the Fixed Base Divi
sion until he was appointed Chief Pilot of
the Airline Division in 1947. He was pro
moted to Operations Manager in 1950 and
in January of 1953 he was elected to the
office of Vice President of Operations.
TWO MILLIONTH PASSENGER CARRIED IN DECEMBER
Another record was set by Piedmont Air
lines in 1 956 when it became the first
local service carrier to board its 2,000,000
passenger.
The passenger, Private James A. Wilson of
Swords Creek, Va., who is stationed at
Fort Knox, Kentucky, boarded Piedmont's
Flight 78 at Louisville to begin the first
portion of his trip home for Christmas.
Miss Janene Simpson, "Miss Kentucky of
1956" presented gifts to Private Wilson
and sent him on his way with a Christmas
kiss. Members of the Louisville Chamber
of Commerce and the JeffersonCounty Air-
board were on hand to extend congratulations
to Private Wilson and to Piedmont Airlines
for its progress.
Piedmont's two millionth passenger total
was reached after eight years and ten months
of operations and 412,334, 534 passenger
miles.
