Captain L. W. McNames
Captain L. W. McNames, Division Chief
Pilot inWinston-Salem v/as promoted to the
nev/ post of Assistant Chief Pilot on March 1.
"Mac"served in the Air Tiansport Command
from 1942 to 1 946 with the rank of Captain,
ferrying aircraft and flying C-87 and C-54
equipment in the "Fireball" (USAF) Air
line. Uponhisdischarge,he joined Chica
go & Southern Airlines and follov/ing this
he went to the Flying Tiger Line -Pacific
Division, to fly in their Contract Carrier
operation.
He joined Piedmont Airlines in January of
1948 and became Division Chief Pilot in
November of 1952.
When circumstances permit, Mac's ground
activities include golf,a sport to which he
is quite devoted.
Captain McNames has just returned from
Las Vegas where he and Captain Frank C.
Nicholson, Chief Pilot, attended an ATA
Chief Pilot's, meeting.
Captain Forrest M.Shelton
Captain Forrest M. Shelton, INT was pro
moted to the position of Check Pilot for the
INT base, succeeding Captain L. W- Me
Names.
Captain Shelton joined Piedmont in Nov
ember of 1947, was recalled to service in
1951 with the rank of Major and for two
years served with the Strategic AirCommand,
He returned to Piedmont In September of
1953.
He has over 12,000 hours of flying to his
credit and in addition to his ATR, he holds
ratings for Sea Plane and Helicopter equip
ment .
His hobbies Include amateur radio. In which
he is very active, using the call letters
W4EJF, fishing and boating. He tells us
that "Ham" radio has enabled him to keep
in touch with all his friends throughout
the world as well as to make many new
ones.

DAVIS ELECTED DIRECTOR
OF ARINC
Thomas H. Davis, President, Piedmont
Airlines was elected a director of Aero
nautical Radio, Inc., Washington, D. C.,
by the stockholdersof that Company attheir
annual meeting held in Washington, March
20, 1957.
Aeronautical Radio, Inc. Is a Corporation in
which the United States Scheduled Air-
11 nes are the principal stockholders .
Other stockholders include a variety of
otherairtransport companies,aircraft manu
facturers and foreign flying airlines.
Activities of Aeronautical Radio, Inc. in
clude the operation of domestic and'over
seas aeronautical land radio stations, the
engineering of radio systems for ground and
airborne exchangeability, the assignment
of radio frequencies to meet the needs of
the airlines, the coordination of standard
airborne communications and electronics
systems and the exchange of technical in
formation between the airlines.

Gloucester, England and Mr. Cyril H.
Morton, Rotol Service Representatives out
of the Washington District Office, visited
Piedmont Alrl ines on March 14 for the pur
pose of discussing service and overhaul of
Rotol Propel lers and the various accessories
manufactured by this Company which will
be used In the Dart Engine.
