Tom Couch and his family were recent visitors to CHO, plus Dolly Judson of North west Airlines and Jim Pryor and Mr. Linney of BOAC. New home builders there include the Leonard Martins who hope to be in their new place by fall. WASHINGTON — Things are buzzing in DCA with new job titles, promotions, and the summer heat, says Farrell Lee. Promo tions include Jim Fouts from Lead Agent to Manager of the City Ticket Office, with Howard Crites moving up to fill the Lead Agent slot. Jaclt Gallaher is now meeting in-bound flights as the new Passenger Service Agent to assist passengers with any last- minute problems. Tom Cleghon, Charlie Johnson, and Austin Mor rison were spotted going over the reservations area with a tele phone in one hand and a paint brush in the other. Jo Ann Buckner qualified as “chief pot holder.” JCA /nfer/iner “Now straight ahead and if we catch it I'll make it worth your while!" Other changes include: A1 Shulley and Jim Faucette as Chief Agents, Operations; C. H. Wilder, Control Agent; W. W. Cook to Acting Chief Mechanic; and W. A. Tomlin to Senior Mechanic. The stork brought baby girls to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Sheri Folger. Helen Holland spent July 4 at Atlantic City while Jo Ann Mai’ginot and her husband got sunburned on a fish ing trip to Ft. Lauderdale. Senior Communications Operator Mary- lin Eastes says there wei’e 755 radio contacts made there in the month of June — the most this year. Margaret Rose and Joe Bar ber spent their vacation this year at Virginia Beach. LYNCHBURG — Frank Reynolds says that vacations are moving right along with Clyde Vaughan “just doing a lot of rest ing” with his vacation followed by Horace Wooldrige’s. Julia Crawford will no longer be gracing the LYH scene, having left her job to await the stork. Adds Frank, “LYH will certainly miss Julia as she has been a big asset to the staff as well as the station. The personnel would like to take this opportunity to thank all agents and their wives who attended the outdoor steak dinner LYH hosted. For those who were unable to attend we hope you will not miss the next one, which won’t be too far away.” Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Smith announce the arrival of a son, Michael, June 19. The new addition’s weight at birth was seven pounds, one ounce. CHARLOTTE — Madge Lanier sends some congratulations and a welcome from CLT this month. The congratulations are for Dwight Miller who has been promoted to Lead Agent, and the welcome is for Miss Linda Boyd, pretty new addition to CLT Communications. Vacationers lately have been: Don Edmondson and family to Wrightsville Beach where Madge joined them; Jean Winslow and daughter to Phoenix, Arizona; Dwight Miller to the West Coast and Tiajuana, Mexico; and Bobby Harrelson, who spent his time only a little distance from home (straight up) log ging time to get his private pilot’s license. Madge and her family also spent four days of camping and fishing at Watauga Lake. Next date on the CLT calendar is the Airlines Progress Committee Interline party, slated for August 26 at the Policeman’s Club. NORFOLK — Fishing is still one of the main interests around here, reports Bob Wylie. Larry Redden and F/0 John Flowers recently enjoyed a good catch of Blues and Sea Bass. While man ning the reservations phones Bill Halsey received a call that set him back a little. Seems the party on the other end wanted to know what the age limit would be for a dog traveling unaccom panied! In June Norfolk went over its passenger quota for the third straight month. Since taking over Segment Five there has been an increase in all departments, with air freight showing the greatest gain. RICHMOND — There are two dog salesmen around the sta tion now. Bob Query is still selling cocker spaniels, and -John Weidensaul is now selUng miniature toy poodles, AKC registered. The poodles are apricot-colored and go for $100 per. There’s been a change at the CTO, writes Ernie Sanders, with the addition of Mary Harris to the group. Ted McCann is back from a Carolina vacation and according to Ernie highly recommends it. COLUMBUS — CMH would like to extend an invitation to all employees for the annual airport picnic there August 26 at the NAA park. PAI CMH is turning out to be the airline of “champion charters.” Says Shirley Sword, “As you all remember we flew the NCAA OSU champions in 1960 and the same group in 1961 when they were runners-up. Currently we have been flying the Colum bus Jets baseball team who at the present time are number one in the International League.” Columbus vacationers are a travel ing group. The Bill Cash family recently returned from a trip to Albany, N. Y.; Bert Carlos and family went to Guilford Lake, Mich., and Shirley Sword and Orval Sword and Mrs. Marilyn Turner visited eight countries in Europe and .Britain. ASHEVILLE — And this word comes from David Lyle: “Ashe ville welcomes a new employee, Eddie Gabriel, to the fine group of humble Agents. Ed hails from Conover, N. C. He’s single and available. Bag delivering has become the byword since Naomi McQuinn and Dave Cameron took two bags to Grandfather Moun tain in Dave’s new MG. The bags were to be delivered to down town AVL. Naomi swears they didn’t have a road map. I must mention that our Piedmonitor reporter has a new Falcon station wagon. It’s a bright red, same as Dave’s MG. AVL will be on its toes as the presidents of the local service carriers meet here. Your reporter is going on vacation to MYR, so look out, beach, here I come!” KNOXVILLE — Former Purser Dave Anderson has decided to try an Agent’s life and is now at TYS in that capacity. Wei Gil bert is a new maintenance employee there. Carl Simpson has re turned from a vacation in Henegar, Ala., CHA, and Ted Arnold took a trip to CHS. Also going on a holiday is Capt. Lee Cottrell. Bob Dekay of ILM was a recent visitor to TYS. PARKERSBURG-MARIETTA — Writes Gary Schuman: “PKB had a good month in June, boarding 118 passengers over quota and leading the field in AM and AF. Jim Kendricks and family just returned from a two week vacation in ATL and Merril Oxley is just starting his in “convalescence.” Merril dislocated his ankle while playing basketball and is hobbling around in a cast. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks go to Manager Don Shanks and wife for an enjoyable “get-together” June 24. Recent guests at PKB were Don Britt, Assistant to the President; and “Uncle” Tom Cowen from CVG. “Uncle” Tom and Don Shanks tried a round at the local golf range but no comments were made about the scores of the game. Yours truly will try to get more informa tion on that matter next time!” LEXINGTON — Charles Clemmons is pinch-hitting for Bruce Ball as reporter this month. Bruce is recovering from an auto mobile accident and here’s wishing for a speedy recovery. For those who would like to send her a get-well card her address is 230 Londonderry Rd., LEX. A. B. Casey has returned from his vacation sporting a suntan, and Bill Heflin is compiling fish stories left over from his recent trip. Deepest sympathy is extended to Jim Neill and Leamon Wil cox on the recent deaths in their families. HUNTINGTON — Mr. and Mrs. Gary Callicoat have a new baby girl named Kimberly Gail. Don Turner “got away from it all” by going to Myrtle Beach, and Jay Johnson and family visited Beckley and Charleston. Walt Ryczek recently spent a weekend in Los Angeles as the guest of American Airlines. Reporter Irene Blake says that Huntington has taken top honors as the cleanest city in West Virginia. Tom Cowen and Frank Slone were recent HTS visitors. BLUEFIELD — Ted Farrington writes that July has been designated “Mercer County Airport Month” with special activities planned for each Sunday. V. T. Dotson went to LAX with Walt Ryczek as a guest of American Airlines, complete with tickets to Disneyland plus hotel accommodations. Las Vegas Party Planned Again Over 3,000 airline employees will be starting off their Christ mas holidays this year with a gigantic eight-day party in Las Vegas. Reservations are now being taken by the Hotel Sahara for the fourth Annual World Air lines Employees Convention and Christmas Party. Eleven special receptions are planned for the gathering, which is scheduled for December 3 through 14. Special rates Decem ber 1-16 for all airlines personnel will be eight dollars a day for one or two people. A five dollar registration fee entitles employees to a compli mentary dinner show in the hotel’s Congo Room plus com plimentary golf, bowling, a Boul der Dam tour, and cab rides. Personnel attending are asked again to taring a present to be placed under the “Airlines Tree.” The collection of gifts will be distributed to needy children in five majors,, cities on behalf of the participating airlines. Anyone interested in going to the party should contact Herb McDonald, Hotel Sahara Exec utive Director of Promotion and Public Relations, for reserva tions. Full name and airline af filiation should be included. “Piedmont Welcomes You" — And one reason why the welcome is so bright is Addie Mae Lammey, Richmond Agent. Despite the summer rush of vacations and baseball charters, Addie always manages to greet the customers with a smile! CHARLESTON — Vacations are the order of the month ac cording to Charlotte Fuda. Irene Kiser spent a week in Provi dence, R. I. and a second week in Florida. Charlotte left CRW to get away from the rain and soaked up sun at Virginia Beach. Jim Settle and his family also went to Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach as well. Jim McCormick, Paul Kelly, and Bob Hill came back from Los Angeles with raves about the wonderful flight. Someone in CRW played a joke on Bob Hill and ordered a wheel chair for him in CVG. SHENANDOAH — SHD had their annual picnic July 15 at Shenandoah Acres, a recreation center located near Staunton. Jim Dallas and Doelph Pitcock challenged all comers to a horseshoe duel. More word on the winners next month. Don Monroe is moving his living quarters to the city of Mount Sidney, Va. Bill Pearman says he hopes Don’s new location is agreeable, since Doelph Pitcock lives there also. Buddy Robinson and his family decided to spend their vacation in Virginia-Beach, which is prov ing to be quite a popular place for Piedmont people. Bill sends his thanks to DCA for sending weather every hour, and says it’s been a great help. PROMOTIONS L. G. Redden, Agt. to Lead Agt., ORF M. D. Mahn, Act. Sta. Chf. Mech. to Sta. Chf. Stay alert —stay alive.
