Davis climaxed weeks of training by Piedmont's first Stewardess class with the presentation of their wings at graduation ceremonies. Smiling proudly are (left fo right) Nancy Vaught, Kay Spencer, Pat Hale, Dorothea Elmore, and Betty Martin. 181 TERRIFIC TWOSOME These girls joined the second class a few days late and so received their wings and uniforms a little after graduation time. Barbara Allen (left) and Pauline Hall are all caught up now though, and are flying the line with other mem bers of their class. NIFTY NINE Members of the second Stewardess class gave an attractive preview of their new outfits. Sporting Piedmont wings are (left to right) Elizabeth Ward, Mary Schindell, Helen Rans- bottom, Eberle Smith, Linda James, Ella Shaffer, Sue Foster, Kay Cratz, and Juanita Zimmerman. i^ememLer Wk en Seven Years Ago in the Piedmonitor Piedmont was looking for a safe, dependable substitute for the DC-3, with the “Friendship" and the “Herald” being consid ered. . . . Capt. Frank Nicholson, System Chief Pilot, was profiled as Executive of the Month. . . . The Piedmont bowling team was tops in its league and was com posed of John “Lover Boy” Hall, C. W. “Pete” Gough, L. J. “Bud” Lambert, W. A. “Wimpy” Fish- el, and Vestle “Ves” Widener. Five Years Ago Piedmont applied for route ex tensions between Cincinnati and Chicago. . . . Response to the “Make Every Trip A Pleasure Trip” contest was overwhelming with an average of 250 entries a day. . . . Piedmont flight bags were introduced for the first time, and sales exceeded the ini tial expectations by many times. One Year Ago The Management Meeting was held in AVL, highlighted by speeches from Marion Sadler, Vice President and General Man ager of American Airlines, and Wayne Parrish, President and Publisher of American Aviation Publications. . . . Progress was reported on the purchase of Martins and sale of the DC-3’s. . . . D. R. Willard was shifted from IFB to INT-M as the new Power Plant Analyst. (Continued from Page Five) duce a ladder for them to crawl through the cockpit window. Quite a show, we hear, for the local spectators! MYRTLE BEACH —“Too bad MBC missed their July quota by nine passengers,” writes Gene Shore, “boardings totaled 6 81 for the month. We are still hop ing for 1,000 in August. Vaca tioning on the Grand Strand re cently were the Ken Ross fam ily, Mitch Everhart family, the YOO CtRTAlNLV ARE ^ COfftE F\END.... Pete Jones family, Capt. Willie Cox and family, and (^apt. Jim my Craig and family. We might not board 1,000 passengers, but we believe we. could make our quota if we could count all the non revs. Taking a trip to ATL recently were Bobby Butler and Gene Shore to tour the PAI op erations. Agent Van Berckman from AGS also joined the trip with them. Agent Larry Hepler is now awaiting the day to an nounce, he hopes, a bouncing baby boy. With the beach sum mer almost over we invite all employees who haven’t been down to come to MBC and we’ll try our best to show you a ball.” TRI-CITIES — The new 101 forms aroused quite a bit of com ment at TRI, according to Ray Norris. “At first it looked like something from UNIVAC,” he saj^s, “or the local math teacher. But actually it’s for the best, so they say. It gets rid of the for- got-to-get-off load slip and the separate little slips of paper for the Captain and the one for the purser and purserettes. Helen Hopson and son spent a cool va cation at Blowing Rock, and Dick Miller and family spent a warm one at ILM. Hank Van- huss and former PI employee John Owen journeyed to Day tona—taking their wives along, of course. Passengers are still pouring in from all points — Piedmont’s progress is really showing, as my aching back will testify!” PARKERSBURG-MARIETTA —Jim Kendricks’ missus has re turned home after spending over three months in a CMH hospi tal. .lack Gwennap and family from AVL were welcome visi tors recently. Jack was the first Manager for PKB. Other visi tors included Tom Coweir, Paul Loar, and R. E. Turbiville. Vize Dotson has returned from vaca tion after visiting his old Ken tucky home. Work is underway to install a new controllable wind tee and high intensity lighting on the instrument run- w a y. Virg Flinn says PKB should be a popular alternate this winter after all the con struction work is completed. ROANOKE — This communi que comes from Joyce Bocetti: “We’ve all been so busy here lately that we haven’t had time to do anything very newswor thy. The best news we’ve had is that Lotte McMahon will be coming back to work soon after a long absence because of ill ness. Another recent occupant of a hospital bed was Earl Crouch who is now at home re cuperating and we hope, well on the way to recovery. If anyone passing through has wondered why Roscoe Cromer has a per petual grin on his face lately it’s because he just became a father for the first time. You’ve never seen a proud papa until you’ve seen Roscoe. Bob McLeod re cently won a local Hertz con test and had the use of a free car while on his vacation. He made good use of it by taking the family to Myrtle Beach.”
