NOVEMBER, 1962 mi Alt ItAMSraiT Editor: Cleta Covington CORRESPONDENTS THIS ISSUE Naomi McGuinn, AVL; Gene Shore, MBC; Virg Flinn, PKB; Tommy Young, ATL-0; Don Tate, GSO; Ruth Shumate, CRW; Glenn Walters, PSK; Gary Schuman, BAL; Elaine Sturr and Bob Stepp, CVG-F; Roger Greenlaw, SHD; June Greer, FAY; Jim Mlnnix, LOZ; Marie Prillaman, RIC; Peg Pequignot, ATL- R; Frank Reynolds, LYH; Julian Morton, FLO; Joe Robertson, BLF; Betsy Buford, INT-C; Fred Smith, PHF VFR with Turhy I suggest if you haven’t had the opportunity to fly into GSB by all means, do so! I would venture to say that there is not an other airline station operation in this country that compares with it. To start with, the GSB terminal building consists of a fifty-foot house trailer. In this trailer is our operations and reservations office, ticket counter, waiting room and two UDI Counters. Oh, almost forgot—one rest room marked “His and Hers.” This trailer or terminal building is located off the airport property which is a top security military base known as Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Passengers and cargo are checked in and loaded into the origin of the mobile lounges. (Now, most people think that original mobile lounges will be used at Dulles International, but GSB got the jump on the idea.) After loading, a security gate is unlocked and the lounge is whisked away down a gravel road some distance to a jet warm-up pad used by Piedmont as the ramp. Passengers remain on the lounge until loading is ready. Deplaning passengers go directly to the lounge for transportation back to the terminal. I forgot to mention—to get to “His and Hers” you have to step across the baggage scales. A small broom is kept in this little room so that in case you drop a pencil, earring or something, you can sweep it out before you can bend over to pick it up. Parker Haley and his gang do a fine job considering this physical set-up. DO TAKE A TRIP TO GSB SOMETIME. I understand that Vize Dotson, Station Manager at PKB, joined the local Rotary Club the other day. The initiation consist ed of his telling the club something about himself. When he got up to speak, he “shipped” a 38-caliber pistol out and fired three shots into the air and said, “Now that I have your attention, I will tell you something about myself.” I guess you can now call Vize a “Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ son-of-a-gun from way out West Virginia.” Sure am sorry we didn’t get to attend the DCA party last week, but we were just not invited! That’s my story—Bill Clark has another. Bill will be on his new assignment November 16— so will Don Shanks. Best of luck to both of you. PEACH—A thing you can’t get by throwing rocks at a hor net’s nest. I came to .'. . (your station) . . . on . . . (your flight) today. After checking the incoming baggage I found mine was miss ing. I informed the lady at your counter while the plane was still at the ramp. Due to her lazy hesitation the plane taxied off and left. I was told my baggage would arrive around 8 o’clock. After your phone calls my belongings arrived at the hotel at 11:30 p.m. I know you strive to give good service and I will speak highly for most of your personnel as I use Piedmont quite often. Sincerely, C.L. Hyattsville, Md. * * * Dear Sir: Please accept my congratula tions upon your good fortune at having such excellent person nel. My mother ... is a very bad arthritic and is very handi capped. She came from Pitts burgh and took your Flight 611 from Washington. She couldn’t have had more care and such gracious treatment anywhere. She returned the 25th of Sep tember on the 8:15 flight back to Washington and again received the same kind treatment. Naturally we were all hesitant about her making the trip but after flying your airline, we will not worry. Upon her arrival in Washington, she was helped to your departure area and her lunch was ordered and served to her there. She was personally escorted to the plane ahead of time. Her care on the plane was excellent. When she embarked upon her return flight she was again helped in every way. This was done not with an air of duty but as though each and every person she met really cared about her. We all thank you and your air line. Sincerely, Mrs. J.D.L. Harrisonburg, Va. * * * Dear Sir: Enclosed herewith is a letter from Donald Woods, Station Manager, Tri-City Airport, with reference to the writer’s com pliance with a request to trans port Roanoke passengers from Tri-City Airport in a rental car provided by Piedmont. The interest of Donald Woods in the welfare and profitable op eration of Piedmont Airlines and the manner in which he handled the customer relations aspect is typical of many Piedmont em ployees I’ve had the pleasure to know while using the service since its beginning. I would like to commend the service I received from Pied mont’s employees at Washington airport. However, I want you to know the service and performance of Piedmont personnel at . . .
