AUGUST, 1967 THE PIEDMONITOR PAGE THREE fe. Photo—Courtesy of Louisville uouner-journal PUSHING OFF — for New Orleans are Rick Crouch, at left, and Jim Covert. Shades of Huck Finn From SDF fo MSY - By Canoe One would suppose that most employees’ families would prefer to fly for their summer vacation travel needs. But comfort and convenience seemed to have little bearing on the choice of Louisville Station Manager Tom Crouch’s son, Rick. Rick and his friend Jim Covert set out from Louisville on June 10th for New Orleans, some 1,339 river miles away. Their launching followed months of careful planning and attention to minute details. Loaded with a small outboard motor for “extreme emergencies”, alumi num pontoons to help prevent capsizing and a supply of food with plans for weekly replinish- ing, the boys departed with a promise to call home at least once a week. “Not many mishaps”, one month and nine'days later the boys arrived in New Orleans. Both boys and boat flew home. AROUND THE SYSTEM . . . (Continued from Page Two) J. W. Headen — Apprentice Radio Tech., INT T. R. Helmick — Agent, ROA J. A. Helton, Jr. — Helper, INT-FB H. G.
