May/August, 1975 f^ieD/Tja/Jiraip page five The CRO girls' softball team included, first row from left, assistant coach Buddy Everhart, Brenda Shan non, Emmie Derden, Janice Cheek, Jeanette Bibb, Lucy Lamond, Linda Wilhelm and Barbara Harwell. On the second row, in the same order, assistant coach Tom Derden, Janice Martin, Bea Daniels, Bonnie Everhart, Brenda Manuel, Linda Taylor, Susan Nash, Dale Sparks, and manager and coach Keith Sparks. Other members of the team who weren't available for the picture were Wanda Ervin, Jenny Denny, Lorene Macemore, Sally Eller, Virginia Cooper, Mary Lib Lindley and Phyllis Taylor. Up to bat The girls at the Central Res Office formed their own softball team and played in the Win- ston-Salem City Softball League for the first time this year. A lot of player enthusiasm and support from other Piedmont employees helped the girls finish the season in second place in their seven team Astro league. At the close of the first half of the season they were in third place with a 4-2 record. They finished the second half in first place with a 5-1 record. Although they didn’t win in the State Tournament we’d say that’s a first rate record, especially for a first year team. Flag ceremonies held Ceremonies for the acceptance and raising of a memorial flag were held the morning of July 3 at the Central Reservations Office. The new flag was given by Betsy Buford in memory of her foster son, Bennie Holland. He died May 20, 1975. r V Jm Taking part in the memorial flag ceremonies at the CRO were, from left, Walt Ryczek, Harvey Tedder, Sandy Holland, Tom Ellington, Betsy Buford and Southern Bell representative W. C. Bumgardner. In the brief but impressive cere mony, the old flag was lowered as “Taps” was played. Betsy then presented the new flag to Walt Ryczek. While the bugler played “Call to the Colors” the new flag was raised. Betsy’s co-workers who attended the cere monies and others at the CRO wanted to express their thanks to Betsy for her thoughtful and generous gift.
