Norfolk Mayor Irvine B. Hill, left, discussed his city's
Bicentennial Package Tour program with Piedmont's
Manager — Agency and Group Sales Don Edmondson
recently. At a travel writer's luncheon at the St. Moritz
in New York, Hill predicted that Norfolk's $79 million
tourism industry will accelerate with the package
program.
Captains cop cups
Officially it was a Lions Club golf tourna
ment. And probably that’s the way the Sebas
tian (Florida) newspaper reported it. The story
we got had a little different slant.
It seems that Captain Cal Redburn was re
cently vacationing at Barefoot Bay in Sebastian,
Florida. Along with taking a break to play
a little golf, Cal was visiting with retired Pied
mont Captains Lee Cotrell and Milt Browning
who’ve moved to that area.
One day when the threesome arrived at the
Barefoot Bay Country Club to try their luck
on the links there was a tournament scheduled.
Nothing would do but they join the 70-odd
other entrants.
They played well and won three of the
tournament trophies. Milt won the cup for
the low gross score. Cal was awarded the long
est drive trophy and Lee took third place in his
flight.
Whether or not Piedmont captains will be
welcomed as warmly to the next Sebastian
Lions Club tournament remains to be seen!
HSP reopens in April
Service to Hot Springs, which was discon
tinued on February 3, will be resumed on April
3 this year. The Company had requested the
Civil Aeronautics Board to allow seasonal ser
vice to Hot Springs. With the Board’s permis
sion, Piedmont will provide future service to
Hot Springs during the period between the first
Sunday in April and the last Sunday in Novem
ber.
Campaign reaches goal
Roy Raines reports that the 1975 United
HiCHOHY pficemmfH
Captain Walt Tackenberg was greeted by friends and fellow employees when he arrived at Norfolk on his last
flight before he retired.
Way Campaign for Winston employees was
sucessfully concluded. The goal of $20,000 was
exceeded by a small margin. Out of the 1503
employees in Winston-Salem 725, or 48 per
cent contributed. The amount given per em
ployee was up from its 1974 level. Raines was
chairman of the 1975 drive.
