On to STL back to TYS on May 1 schedule
Piedmont will put St. Louis, the
"Gateway to the West." on the air
line's map when we begin service
there on May 1.
Also on May 1 we will re-enter the
Knoxville, TN, market which we
previously served from August 25,
1952, to October 25, 1981.
At the Lambert-St. Louis Interna
tional Airport (STL), Piedmont will
provide two nonstop, round-trip
flights daily to our CLT hub where
connections can be made to
21 other destinations.
STL is presently served by
16 carriers. TWA has the largest
volume of activity with 175 depar
tures daily, and STL is the location
of Ozark's corporate headquarters.
The airport is the seventh busiest
air center in the United States and,
when a $200 million renovation
program is completed, will have a
total of 89 gates.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Area
is the 14th largest in the United
States with a population of over
two million. It is located on the west
and east banks of the Mississippi
Riverjust below its confluence with
the Missouri River. The City of St.
Louis is the 26th largest in the
country.
Re-entering Knoxville
When Piedmont discontinued
service to Knoxville (TYS) in 1981,
the airline had only one YS 11
flight a day to CLT. Since that time
our service at CLT has grown from
62 daily departures to 162 on the
May 1 schedule. We will have added
nonstop service from CLT to 13
new destinations including IJKX
and SFO on the West Coast.
In fact, on the May 1 schedule.
Because of its historic role in the /lalion 's
lucstward expansion. St. l^iiis is frequently
called the "Gateway to the West." Com
memorating this role is the 630-Joot stain

Piedmont will offer more than
20,000 seats daily out of our hub at
CLT.
Because of this rapid, succcssful
expansion, we can now provide lYS
travelers with a much higher level
of service. Our morning and alter
noon flights will offer round trip,
direct or connecting flights to
Saarinen, that is the focal point of the 86-

tic arch is the nation's tallest man-made
monument.
