8 Piedmont Green Hangar reunion Honors Pi's 1st employees [’iedmont's First Family — those Maintenance employees who worked in the old "Green Hangar" between January 1, 1940 and January 31, 1956 — gathered for a reunion recently at the Elks Club in Winston Salem. About two years ago A1 Lundy and 1 were talking about our early days at Piedmont," David lYice, Maintenance-GSO, said, "and we thought about the idea of having a reunion of all the Maintenance employees who worked in the old Green Hangar, the birthplace of the airline.” 'I'hat idea began to take shape last spring when Lundy and Price along with l^arry Hartman and Reid Cook formed a committee and began con tacting members of Piedmont’s First Family. Fifty live employees and their spouses turned out for the extravaganza which included dinner and a dance. Also on hand were TH. Davis, Pied mont's founder and retired chairman of the board, and Bob Worthington, Zeke Saunders, and Tom Morton, all retired Piedmont officers. In addition, Howard Cartwright, vice president-maintenance and engineering, joined the group. The Green Hangar, which was Piedmont’s first hangar and served the airline until 1956 when new facilities opened in Winston Salem, has recently been torn down to make room for General Aviation's new headquarters.
