This past summer USAir announced that, ef
fective on the date of the operational merger of
Piedmont and USAir, all Piedmont and former
Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) agents would be
advanced to USAir wage parity. The announce
ment raised a number of questions which were
recently answered in a teletype message to all

On November 3. 1988. arbitrator Sam
KageL released his decision regarding the
merging of the pilot seniority lists of Pied
mont and USAir directing that the lists be
integrated on a date-of-hire basis, with
conditions designed to satisfy many of the
concerns of Piedmont pilots. ALPA Master
Executive Committee Chairman Capt. Don
McGregor, in a wire to all Piedmont pilots,
said. 'All of our interests are now best
served by working with our new col
leagues to help make USAir the strongest
and most successful carrier in the
industry."

Piedmont President and Chief Operating Officer
Tom Schick.
Schick provided the following information con
cerning the process of granting wage parity to
the agent work force:
• The published USAir agent pay scales in ef
fect on the date of integration will apply to all
agents.
• Effective the date of the operational merger
of Piedmont and USAir, any employee with previ
ous part-time agent service at either Piedmont or
PSA will be given pay seniority credit for that
service on the same basis as USAir employees re
ceive pay seniority credit for part-time service.
• All part-time agents will be paid the hourly
rate equivalent of the appropriate step on the
USAir full-time agent scale. There will be no sep
arate part-time scales.
• All Piedmont agents who are former Empire
agents will receive pay seniority credit on
USAir's published pay scales for their full- and
part-time service in the agent classification at
Empire on the same basis as USAir employees
receive pay seniority credit.

Service inaugurated to IVICI
P^ansas City became the 96th air
port to join Piedmont’s route sys
tem with the inauguration of three
daily nonstop flights between Kan
sas City and Charlotte on November
1. The service is the first new-city
expansion from Charlotte since the
addition of Fort Myers, FL, last
February. Kansas City Mayor Rich
ard Berkley joined Lionel Anders,
Piedmont staff vice president-sales.

mont flights in addition to their

the Piedmont station.
On the same day, USAir expanded
its Kansas City service by adding a
daily nonstop to Los Angeles. Pied
mont will increase service further at
P^ansas City on December I with the
addition of two daily nonstops to Bal
timore/Washington and a daily
roundtrip serving San Francisco.
The inauguration on November 1
was preceded by a reception at the
Westin Crown Center in Kansas
City on October 26 sponsored by
the Piedmont/USAir district sales
office in Kansas City. More than
500 local city dignitaries, airport
officials, and Piedmont and USAir
employees attended the reception
which was highlighted by comments
from Anders and Andy McGraw,
USAir/Piedmont regional sales
director.

Kansas City International Airport. Among those celebrating the inau
