PIEDMONT NEWS SHEET Vol. 1 No. 1 April 1, 1951. No April Fool joke this! It’s rather an honest effort to begin a news sheet which may become a monthly digest of news and information that will prove helpful and interesting to all PAI personnel from IMN to CVG and ORF, including all inter mediate stops. Its success will depend on the help and cooperation of EVERYONE. We can definitely count on the Department Heads to furnish us with “educational” data - things we all should know. (We are sure of this because they have promised to give us the word). However, its for certain that many incidents occur daily through out the system which would be of interest or benefit to all - if all were informed. Through this medium it may be possible to let the Tri-Cities gang know what goes on in Charleston. So, each of you can help by sending in to MR. HAGER any item or items, at any time, which you think might be of interest in a news sheet such as this, and we will see that your ideas and information are distributed. Remember - this sheet can not be prepared unless material is furnished - Its your news sheet - and if you like the idea your assistance will be essential. - CONTEST - First of all we need a name - The best one submitted within the next thirty days will appear on all subsequent issues - plus that, the person sending in the winning title will receive a $5.00 check. Everyone who can use an extra $5.00 should submit a proposed title. Hurry - and do this immediately. Your idea may bring you fame and fortune ! - PIEDMONT FINAL MAIL RATE - The retroactive final mail rate recently established for Piedmont Airlines by the C.A.B. is the lowest rate yet established for any of the local service airlines. The Bcrircl oet A8^ per recognized revenue mile as the amount to be paid Piedmont during its initial period of operation. The rate for future operations is set on a sliding scale basis, dependent upon load factors. The mail rate as set for us by the Board is one to be proud of and is made possible through operating efficiency and outstanding development of other revenues. Every effort has been and must be exerted to decrease our mail pay need. - SPRING SCHEDULE - V/ith the coming of daylight saving time April 29 most carriers are having a major schedule change. Ours is going to be quite radical. Not only will we have new flights, but we will also have new flight numbers. The numbering system which has been worked out will permit considerable expansion and it is believed that further change will not be necessary at any time in the near future. The new schedule will require eight (8) flying airplanes. They will fly approximately 89 hours daily for an approximate 11,728 miles. You can see by this that a busy Summer is expected.
