Summer had come again to High
lands, bringing with her many chan
ges.
The wind which had buffeted us
rudely, with frosty breath and icy
fingers throughout the winter, now
kissed us lightly on our cheeks
and caressed us lovingly. The
frozen grounds, brown with stubble
two months ago, had turned into
luxuriant green gardens, where corn
stalks proudly flaunted their tas
sels in the sun. The brook, whose W
babbling was muffled by heavy ice
along its banks in February, now
rushed by unhampered, bubbling with
glee. Murky winter skies, darkened
by angry cumulus, had changed to
heavenly blue, and sno^^jy white
clouds drifted aimlessly along theii[J?
way. The trees, once naked and
forlorn, now rustled their new
green garments provocatively as

GARDEN CLUB MEETS
The Highlands Garden Club met
Thursday, June 17, at the Plat
Mountain home of the president,
Mrs. A. To Carter. As this was an
open meeting on landscaping, mem
bers invited friends to hear the
guest speakers, David Watson and
James Carey, both of Clemson, S.C.
The first speaker, Mr. Watson,
spoke of the infinite variety
of landscaping to be found in
mountain and hillside gardens
of how we were not as limited in
our planning as were people who
lived in Flat Country of ^he

On Thursday, June 17th, our
troop meeting was held in the re
creation room of the Methodist
Church, as our regular **Hut*' does
not have the seating capacity v/hich
we hoped would be needed for this
meeting. The parents of the boys
and all friends of scouts v/ere in
vited for the showing of a film
taken from camp life at Camp Daniel
Boone, the Council camp at Canton.
