A solemn old pine tree balanced un steadily on the uttermost point of the craggy ledge at the edge of the forest, seemed to look wonderingly at the Tnn-n ap proaching the drop-off. When the man reached the edge he paused and stood gaz*» ing mutely into the far-reaching depths of the chasm, his cloudyi gray eyes not seeing the magnificance of the scene.
