nomer outside of law and morality. The
second table of the divine code applies
to murder, adultery, theft, perjury,
and covetousness; and underlies the
rights of life, property, charact^,..

plies to idolatry, the worship of im

ience and honor of children to their
parents. These are matters of religious
and domestic life, and must be left to
the individual, so long as he does not
run counter to public rights and social
order. Civil government has nothing to
do with iry religion (or should not have)
my personal character, my family, or
my Sabbath, except to protect their
rights. Religious liberty and civil
liberty, while morally interdependent,
are organically independent of each
other.
