GALAX NEWS CLOSES FOR THE
SEASON
The streets are a little emptier
now^ and nights a little cooler - the
season is ending and the G/iLAK NEWS
is closing its 20th year.
Soon we'll be going back to schools
Barbara to begin her freshman year at
Western Carolina^ Dotty to begin her
senior year at Western Carolina Univer
sity and Susan to begin her sophomore
year at the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro.
Thank you to everyone who has had
a part in inaking our 20th year of pub
lication a success.
GANGER CRUSADE OYER TOP
The preliminary results of the
Cancer Crusade party at VZTOP indicate
that over $1^000 was raised for the
fight against cancer by the Ea.st Ifecon
(Highlands) unit of the American Cancer
Society, Some 130 people attended the
tea at the Rainiirater mansion and many
others made contributions.
The winning number for award of the
beautiful 5 piece silver service
donated by the Highlands Art Gallery was
2225 held by Michael Pugh of Pompano
Beach^ Florida who secured the lucky
ticket at Lee^s Inn.
The directors of the local cancer
society would like to take this opportun
ity to thank those who worked so hard to
make the tea an outstanding success^ and
the Highlands Art Gallery and Potts

BABY CONTEST WINNERS
The judges had a tremendous task
before them as they were asked to chose
the best babie*s photographs from the
many that were taken by Burton Talbott
during the past few months. Two x^rinners
were chosen from each of the three
divisions. Winners in the first division
for babies up to 18 months were Denita
Edwards, daughter of Vx. and Ifrs. Donnie
