PAGE FOUR APRIL23 . the GREEK HERALD By MIKE HUGHES Last weekend Sigma Phi Epsilon celebrated Founders Day Weekend. Returning alumni enjoyed a banquet, ritualistic meeting, and a dance featuring the Soul Seranaders. The fraternity was founded October 1, 1902. Last weekend at the Hertford House Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority celebrated their Founders Day. The sorority was founded April 20, 1898, at Longwood College. Mrs. Henrietta Moye Williamson was presented an outstanding alumni service award. Judy Youngblood was presented the Outstanding Sister Award. Pam Miller and Ginny Vinson were selected as outstanding pledges. On Saturday, April 18, Sigma Pi Fraternity held their Orchid Ball. Rosalie Gillikin was crowned Orchid Ball Queen. The ball was held at the Elks Club in Rocky Mount and music was provided by the Turks. Wayne Vanderford was presented the Outstanding Brother Award. A1 Dail and Steve Blanks were honored as the best pledges. Harold Herring was presented an award for outstanding ser vice to the chapter. Other awards were presented. Delta Zeta held a cookout and softball game on April 10 for all sisters and pledges. Greek Week began with a “splash” at the reservoir! Robert Amerson won the mile swim competition for Delta Sigma Phi. The Huckleberry Mudflap of Barkers Island, N.C. provided the entertainment. Many members of Gamma Delta Iota were present. An early threat of foul weather soon changed to a “dry” afternoon. All in all it was rather HEAVY. Everyone lolled in daliance. More Greek Week will appear in our next edition. The fine blend of the men’s voices was evident in the two selec tions, “Deep River” and “Shenandoah”. Solists Gary Cummins and Eric Fushs were remarkable in their con tributions to the program. The Barsity Quintet and the Barbershop Quartet were special attractions in the programs. They performed popular and humorous songs which attracted the attention of the audience. The Men’s Chorus closed its program with the popular song, “By The Time I Get To Phoenix”, accompanied by piano and guitar. Inducted (Continued Page one) for this year aided in the ceremony.
