Til © Colie PUBLISHED WEEKLY Turnabout - From Abstract to Realistic Art Russell Arnold, chairman of the Alantic Christian College Department of Art, has been deeply involved in producing outstanding abstract art for more than two decades. His work hangs in galleries and museums across the country. He has taken top prizes in most every major art com petition in North Carolina and the Southeastern United States. A highly versatile person, Ar nold works comfortably in most every media ... pen and ink, pencil, oils, acrylics and water- colors. Art patrons will see a com plete turnabout in Arnold’s art style when some 20 pieces of his work are featured in a one-man exhibition in Atlantic Christian’s main art gallery in early March. Instead of abstract symbolism, they will view a show of modern realism ... people will look like people, landscapes will appear as landscapes, etc. Why the change in style? “Occasionally an artist who produces primarily abstract art gets a deep urge to produce work of a realistic nature,” said Arnold. “I guess mainly it is because a challenge arises within him to do something which calls for preciseness. Not that abstract art is not precise, it is — but realistic art requires preciseness to an extremely high degree.” Many of the pieces of work which are to appear in the March exhibit seem to be almost photographic. The realism and colors are breathtaking. It will be a show well worth viewing. 1 . . *'/< hr ntnni nr hml, hat mi>\t I'tTU inl\ uilhnul /rfi-ilnm tl it til nft.r /w -inMhtnK l>ui h^ti: UUti RistianCOLLEGE,January .-^i. ^Q^A ATLMITIQ CHRISTIAN Photos By Milton Rogers on Notice All students planning to apply for financial assistance for the 1974- 75 academic year and the 1974 summer terms should attend a meeting Thursday, January 31,1974 at 11:00 in Hardy Alumni Hall.
