The Atlantic Christian basket
ball squad found itself amid a
dizzying swirl of roaring fans
Monday night as they made
their way onto the court to
prepare themselves for one of
their better performances of
late. The rare elements of
enthusiasm and on the court
action combined to produce one
of those memorable sporting
events which send ’em away
smiling.
Although it was by far not a
capacity crowd, the intensity
and emotion projected by those
in attendance swayed the home
player immensly and was an
obvious factor in the final out
come of the game.
From the opening tip, the
adrenalin was clearly evident as
a tenacious full court press and
an unbending goal defense al
lowed little penetration by the
Pembroke opponents. Although
Ladies lose to Braves
By KAREN WALSTON
Altough there was plenty of
effort and spirit Monday night,
the Lady Bulldogs suffered a
disappointing loss to Pembroke,
77 to 79.
The Lady Bulldogs led by as
much as eight points in the first
half, but the Lady Braves came
»ithin two by half time, 33-31.
AC's ladies came out fighting
in the second half. They staked
a five point lead but couldn’t
hang on to it. Pembroke’s ladies
cut the lead down and went
ahead several times during the
second half.
Both teams were fighting for
the lead during the last two
minutes of the game. Pembroke
had a two point lead with 21
seconds left in the game. The 30
second timer ran out on Pem
broke giving AC the ball. AC’s
ladies moved the ball around to
get a good and final shot to tie
the game but a bad pass was
nade with three seconds left,
giving Pembroke the ball. Time
tan out on Pembroke and AC,
gi'^ing Pembroke the two point
»in, 79-77.
Terri Mohr was lead scorer
for AC with 15 points. She also
led the rebounding attack, pul
ling down 15 rebounds. Annie
Wooten bucketed 14 points and
gfibbed 8 rebounds. Susan
Davis and Lorraine Riley each
made 13 points and Cathy Wall
with 10.
For Pembroke, Margart Ball
made 33 of the 79 point win and
pulled down 17 rebounds. Faye
Council was second highest
with 18 points.
A.C.’s ladies shot 49.2% from
the floor and 50% from the free
throw line. Pembroke shot
53.6% from the floor and 33.3%
from the free throw line.
The lady Bulldogs’ next home
game will be Monday, Feb. 5th,
against St. Augustine

faced with a much taller squad
in the Braves, A.C, was intimi
dated little as time and again
they drove the ball to the hoop
and pulled down invaluable
rebounds. The hot shooting
hand of the Bulldogs gave them
an early lead and would prove to
be fatal for the cold but persis
tent visitors.
As the game wore on, the
crowd grew louder and more
taunting and with each home
basket, broke out in a swell of
cheering approval. The re
sounding drum beats and chant
ing of onlookers did little to aid
the Pembroke cause which
found itself under by 9, 31-22. at
the half. It was sure that the
absence of forw ard Stan Lewter
would not hinder the pilgrims'
progress this night on their
quest for a better record.
During the intermission, the
fans mingled and talked of the
game as they were entertained
by selections prepared by the
school’s jazz band and while a
few of the more daring ventured
onto the court to showcase their
light-footedness in an exhibition
of intricate twist and turn dance-
steps,
