Homecoming/Parents’ Day comes to AC

Homecoming-Parents' Day is
just around the corner and it
looks like it may be an exciting,
eventful day.
After registration, which is
from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in Hardy
Alumni Hall, the formal convoc
ation begins. The convocation is
mainly concerned with the re
dedication of Hardy Center. Dr.
A. P. Perkinson, President of St.
Andrews Presbyterian College
will be the speaker. The college
band, college choir, and vocal
ensemble will perform at this
time while the faculty marches
in academic regalia. Hardy
Center will then have open
house from 12:00-12:45 p.m.
Another highlight of the day
involves a campic picnic-center
campus at 12:45 p.m. Students
should have their l.D's with
them when they come. The price
will be $2.50 for those not on the
meal plan.
From 2:00-3:00 p.m., there
will be departmental receptions.
This provides an opportunity for
parents and formal majors to
visis the faculty in the various
departments.
For the art fans, an exhibit of
this talent will be shown in the
Case Art Gallery from 3:00-4:30
p.m. If one is not into art, a
tennis match will be held on the
ACC tennis courts at this same
hour. The 1979 National Tennis
Team will be playing the
Alumni. It looks like lots of
energy will be displayed.
There will be three ‘‘get-to
gethers.” all beginning at 4:30
and continuing until 5:30. The
class of 1977 will meet at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Swain, the class of 1978 will be
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Norbert Irvine, and the class of
1979 will be at the home of Mr.
and Dr. Doug Graham. The
President's reception for Alum
ni, parents, and students will
meet at the home of Dr. and
Mrs. Harold Doster.
At 7:30 a dinner will be held
in the cafeteria of the Hamlin
Student Center. At this dinner.
the 1979 National Champion
Tennis Team will be honored.
Dr. John Eatmon of the school
of Business at East Carolina
University will be the featured
speaker. His speech will be
directed toward "SPorts in the
College Community." The cost
of attending this event will be
$5.00 per person.
The final event will be the
Homecoming Dance in which
the crow ning of the 1980 Home
coming Queen will take place.
The dance will be held in the
Wilson Gym and admission will
be $1.00. The performing band
will be Time Square.
Chaplain Hensley, chairman
of the Homecoming-Parents’
Day Committee states, “Res
ponse to the invitations mailed
to all Alumni and parents has
been exceptionally gixxl and
Atlantic Christian anticipates an
eventful day with alumni and
parents remembering old days,
celebrating new developments,
and meeting with friends and
family."
Heavens! Contest success!
Time Square booked
for dance
As many of you loyal students
may already know, suspect or
have heard. Homecoming is
fast approaching (Oct. 6, to be
precise). The dance will be a
much welcome diversion for the
arduous tasks of term papers,
library work and eventual tests,
besides costing one buck to
enjoy live entertainment by a
top quality band. Why sit
around the dorm doing nothing
earth-shattering when this very
inexpensive chance to‘‘shake
your body down to the ground”
is begging for you to take
advantage of?
The name of the group is
“Time’s Square”, an 8-piece
band specializing in the latest of
disco and top 40 hilts. The
location is Wilson Gvm and
although it may not be the best
place to jam, at least it
saves some much needed cash
that would otherwise go straight
to the gas tank, no doubt; so
that’s another extra added at
traction. To highlight the
evening, the Queen finalists will
also be there in all their glory,
waiting for the suspense to be
broken with the crowning of
this year’s Homecoming
Queen.
The dixir opens 8:15 P.M.,
Saturday, October 6th, and un
less some sort of disaster hits
A.C. campus (i.e. bubonic
plague, smallpox, malaria,etc.)
everyone is urged to get out of
the dorm, get off your rump and
enjoy yourself at (he 1979

Pictured left is Charles Nottingham , who was one of the two winners of last week's
Wonderful Collegiate Contest. Surprisingly, pictured next to him is Barbara Smith, the
second of the two winners of the Wonderful Collegiate Contest. Pictured next to her is one of
the doubtless hundreds of Collegiate staff members who were on hand to witness the award
ceremony. For the answers to last week’s contest, see page 2.
Women’s Interdorm Associa
tion held its second “Sadie
Hawkins Day” on Saturday,
Sept. 22. 1979. The day
began with a volleyball tourn-
ment, Olympic players they
were not. but each boo-boo just
added to the laughter and fun.
The other events ranged from
relays running backwards to
table tennis. A water balloon
toss ended in a war with the
only winners being those who
escaped unsaturated! Harper
Dorm “took the cake" with the
most points overall. The Sadie
Hawkin's Day Award will be
placed in Harper's lobby to
remind everyone of the valiant
efforts of the residents there.
