status and talents on March 18
at 7:30 p.m. in the choral room
of the music building. Dr.
Gordon E. Mercer, currently
head of the Department of Poli
tical Science and Public Affairs
at Western Carolina University
has distinguished himself at
several institutions across the
state as an outstanding profes
sor of political science and
public administration.
Students Should
Pre-Register
Students enrolled in spring
semester 1982 may advance
register for fall semester 1982
and summer school 1982 from
March 23 to March 29.
In order to register as a full
time student in the fall semes
ter, students must pay a $100
advance payment to the busi
ness office by March 15. Ad
vance payment is not required if
the student is registering part-
time or for summer school only.
Students must pick up regi
stration packets at the Regi
strar's Office from March 18 to
19 between the hours of 8:30
a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Students will meet with their
department chairman at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, March 23.
Chairmen will review degree
and department requirements,
registration procedures and give
instructions on how to set indi
vidual conferences with ad
visers. Attendance at this meet
ing is required.

Receiving his master's in
political science and sociology at
the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill in 1964, he
continued his education receiv
ing his doctorate in public
administration and political sci
ence at the University of Florida
in Gainesville in 1971.
Professor Mercer has held
several teaching positions be
sides his current position at
Western Carolina, including
tenures with the University of
Mississippi, the University of
Richmond as well as Atlantic
Christian College from 1963 to
1965 where he was instrumental
in organizing a political science
major. Further adding to his
list of fine credentials was
employment in the National
Institute of Education in the
Depariment of Health, F^uca-
tion, and Welfare and a fellow
ship with the U. S. Office of F^-
ucation. Mercer has also written
several outstanding works for
various scholarly periodicals.
Sponsoring this speaker is
just one of the many activities
sponsored by ACC chapter of l*i
Gamma Mu and all students and
professors and staff are cor
dially invited to attend what
should be a stimulating and
interesting presentation.
Open to the public, it is hoped
that a large and enthusiastic
crowd will welcome Dr. Mercer
back to ACC.
