THE BENNETT BANNER
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1975
Potpourri Gripes
The editor of one of the nation’s leading newspapers once
remarked that he wrote an editorial once daily and, therefore,
had little extra that he desired to get off his chest. The editor of
the Banner is not interested in clearing a congested chest and
even less interested in developing a gripe sheet. Nonetheless,
there is a surplus of items to gripe about. These grievances are a
reality to students and perhaps, if they are griped about enough
we will no longer have these same old things to complain about.
However, before griping let me remind you of an editorial of
praise that appeared in one of last semester’s issues. This was a
genuine effort to focus on one happy facet of our campus—thus,
be positive. The editorial was about Don Webster. The person
who griped to the editor, in a session that lasted well over two
hours, was a faculty member. The complaint concerned the line
in that editorial that stated Webster did not chase the girls
around. This' faculty member felt that his wife or someone out
side the Bennett Community would see the article and assume
that all male faculty and staff members chased students. This
was a perfectly erroneous assumption, but if the shoe fits . . .
The college nurse has already outdone herself and we are
not to the mid-semester, yet. So far she has been unavailable (ex
cept for lengthy waits) in two emergency situations. She is sure
bet for one of Esquire Magazine’s Dubious Awards for 1975.
As of late whenever asking around the dormitory about an
editorial subject, the topic suggested is the basketball team or
more specifically the coach. I have even heard rumors of kid
napping the coach before the games so that team members can use
their own heads since the coach’s head is operating about as well
as the gymnasium floor. But the coach need not worry as these
are only suggestions and an outlet for the frustrations the stu
dents feel as a result of our perfect season, thus far.
What about the dining hall? The food is basically not that
bad but hasn’t anyone over there heard that variety is the spice
of life?
And last but not least is the gripe theme “Why Is Bennett
A Nine Month Resort?” In light of what we go through around
here a sense of humor is a must and a resort atmosphere a
necessity!

As is the policy with any newspaper, the Banner cannot ac
cept for publication unsigned letters to the editor. Under special
circumstances the editor may consider not printing the signa
ture but the signed letter must be on file in the Banner office.
